Reminder: after resetting or flashing a new image, you will need to pair with your unit again (https://firewalla.com/install). Your old Firewalla icon will not work.

The Purple Installation guide is available here.
If you are encountering issues with the Firewalla Purple/Purple SE, here are all the ways you can reset it to factory default.
Reset to Factory Default
If you can access the Purple using the Firewalla App, go to Box Settings -> Advanced -> Reset -> Reset to Factory Defaults.
See After reset to restore your configuration.
Reset via App
If Purple is not reachable through the Home screen in the App, follow the steps below to reset.
- Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the Purple and the other to your router or a switch.
- First screen -> tap the top right icon "…" -> scroll down and tap on "Hardware Troubleshooting"
- Wait for the Purple to be discovered -> tap the purple box -> scan QR code -> tap on 'Reset to Factory Defaults'
When the status light starts to blink Blue, the box is reset and booting up. If the RED light is solid on, the reset is failed. You may need to try again. If that fails again, move Manual Reset.
Follow the Installation guide as to how to configure your network connections to the Purple for whichever mode you want to select following the reset.
See After reset to restore things.
Manual Reset
If the App fails to discover the Firewalla App on the steps above, you can reset the box without App.
- Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the Purple and the other to your router or a switch.
- Unplug the power cable to power off the Firewalla Box.
- Use a paperclip to "gently" press and hold the RESET button, then plug in the power cable to power on the Firewalla Purple. (Please DO NOT USE SHARP objects or press too hard)
- Continue holding the RESET button while checking the status light on the back of the Purple to the left of the USB port. It will blink blue, then red, then blue. Purple is now resetting and you can remove the paperclip.
- When the status light starts to blink Blue, the box is reset and booting up.
Status Light | Process |
Blinking Blue | Reset Success |
Solid Red | Reset Fail |
Follow the Installation guide as to how to configure your network connections to the Purple for whichever mode you have selected.
See After reset to restore things.

Maybe this article should be included in other articles that mention flashing the Firewalla Gold and Red/Blue/Blue Plus, like the one that explains how to upgrade packages. That article doesn't recognize the existence of the Firewalla Purple.
