Status Updates

9/12

  • Gold Pro is now in general availability mode! To purchase https://firewalla.com/goldpro

9/9:

  • Gold Pro rackmount kit should be available from the end of September to early October 

 

9/9:

Fulfillment Status:

  • USA orders, 85% already have tracking numbers.
  • International orders (outside of the USA and Canada): Typhoon Yagi is causing a delay in Hong Kong; we hope to have some released by tonight (Pacific Time), and more likely tomorrow. 

We are hoping by Thursday, 9/12, the Gold Pro will be generally available to order. 

  • We will turn off "Gold Pro" orders on 9/11 and reactivate it on 9/12. (this will give us the opportunity to do various cleanups and flush pre-orders)

 

9/1:

Update

  • Gold Pro Units (Pre-order) will start shipping on September 4th (USA/Pacific Time)
  • It will take a few days to a week to complete all pre-order shipping
  • Gold Pro rackmounts will start manufacturing soon (we paid a bit more to squeeze in). These units will likely be shipping in early October. We will get the pre-order (+discount) once manufacturing is done. 

8/27:

Update

  • Pre-orders will be fulfilled the week starting 9/5/2024. 
  • If we have enough leftovers, the Gold Pro will go to the normal production cycle in the middle of September. (inventory available immediately)

 

8/13:

Update:

  • We officially moved the gold pro shipping date from 10/1 to 10/30/2024
  • At the moment, it is likely we may be able to move this shipping date into September (pre-order only) Will know in 7 days

7/15:

Update:

  • Wave 2 should be mostly delivered, and some later ones should be in transit.
  • Wave 3 should be mostly in transit, with some delivered.
  • Rackmount tray tooling is getting this in a couple of weeks. 

We are working with our vendor on the final production units. Will publish the rough schedule once we have them.

6/28 A small number of early access units shipped

6/20 Early Access (Beta) Started 

Firewalla Gold Pro Early Access Update

We will be dividing the early access shipment into two different waves. (The selection process is weighted random; for example, if you ordered earlier, you are likely to be on the list, and a few other criteria) And we are doing our best to get as many units as possible. 

1. We have already sent out an invite to Wave 1. This batch may ship as soon as the week of June 24th. 

2. The Wave 2 invite will likely happen next week, and shipping will occur during the first week of July, and may spill into the second week.

If you received the invite, please read it carefully, including checking your address, and also make sure you download/sign up for the beta app. 

Once the first wave is received, we will adjust the price of the Gold Pro a bit.

6/11 Manufacturing started

The Gold Pro will have these limits increased; likely, there will be more to follow as we go through beta. 

  • WireGuard client limit:
    • 25 Prod -> 50 Prod
    • 100 EA/Beta/MSP -> 200 EA/Beta/MSP
  • Change Site to Site limit from 10 connections to 20 connections.
  • Change the max # of IPs per WAN to 1 + 10 additional IPs
  • Change the max # of active VPN clients to 10
  • Change the max # of VPN client connections to 20

  •  By popular vote, our customers (and reddit / Facebook) all picked version B of the rack mount. (This is an accessory you will have to purchase separately, it does not come with your gold pro order by default)

4/24/2024:

  • We are targeting a beta release in mid- to late July. As usual, beta units will have the final board and beta software, and I think the casing may be constructed manually rather than using a mold (you most likely won't be able to tell the difference). These units are fairly expensive to build, so the quantity is limited. 
  • The beta signup survey and general rack mount survey will be sent in early May. 
  • The Gold Pro software is getting tuned. We will likely increase the limits on many features with this unit. It may take 1 to 1.5 months to get this ready and release to beta.

Performance Test Results

High-speed performance tests are extremely difficult to test in the real world consistently. To ensure we can measure the true packet performance of the Firewalla Pro, all the tests below use a lab setup emulating LAN -> Firewalla -> WAN.

  • Firewalla Gold Pro (Engineering Sample)

  • Large target list blocking rule with roughly 8000 entries.
  • IDS/IPS/Active Protect On
  • We will do multiple rounds of testing and average out the results.

FAQ

When will the Pre-Sale end?

We usually run the Pre-Sale until we ship the product. All Pre-Sale benefits are applicable until we turn the "pre-order" button into "Add to Cart."

The Pre-Sale coupon is only valid for the first 24 hours of the sale. 

We usually increase the Pre-Sale price as we get closer to the final delivery date or if there is a significant increase in production cost. 

 

Is the unit rack mountable?

Yes, we will release an optional rack mount kit in late 2024.

 

Will there be a beta release?

Yes, in summer 2024! The beta unit will include a final board, CNC case, and beta software. 

 

Are the 10Gbit ports multi-speed?

Yes, they are. They can negotiate and operate at 10Gbit, 5Gbit, 2.5Gbit, 1Gbit, and most likely 100Mbit. The 2.5Gbit port can operate at 2.5Gbit, 1Gbit, and 100Mbit.

 

Will the Gold Pro support Simple Mode and/or DHCP mode?

No.

At least not officially. Simple mode via ARP spoofing is challenging to make right with high-speed networks. Due to its compatibility with Android 14, we list it as a Legacy feature, which means we will eventually drop support. Single port DHCP mode may also be slower; we will list it as legacy or not support it on the Gold Pro. 

 

How fast will PPPoE be?

At the moment, PPPoE is limited to 3 to 3.5 Gbits (most likely this number will be much higher during beta).

 

Are there SFP+ or SFP ports on the Gold Pro?

No, all ports are RJ45, NBASE-T ports.

 

Is the case plastic?

It is all metal.

 

Where will the Gold Pro be made?

It will likely be made in Taiwan for the Pre-Sale. We're not sure about future units yet.

 

Will the Gold rack tray work with this unit?

No, this unit is full rack height and will be much simpler to mount.

 

What will the final price be after the Pre-Sale?

At the moment, we have no idea. Our goal is to keep the unit price less than 1000 dollars. The pre-sale price is likely the best price you will get. 

 

When will the Gold Pro ship?

The Gold Pro will tentatively ship in November 2024 (at the latest, December).

Is there a trade-in or trade-up program?

No. However, our products tend to retain their value quite well, so you should be able to resell any Firewalla you no longer need.

 

Will Firewalla Wi-Fi SD work with the Firewalla Gold Pro?

Yes.
