Adblock will block ads from web pages and mobile apps. Due to how internet domain names are designed, this block is not always perfect. Our service is to point your current configured DNS server to our internal dns cache.
(Ad block is on Firewalla Box, it is done using a DNS cache, and yes your DNS lookup will be very fast, and we didn't even advertise this!)
Windows/Mac/iPhone/Android all cache DNS entries, for example, to flush DNS cache on the iPhone is simply put the phone in airplane mode then turn it off.
Some websites will detect adblocking and prevent the content from getting served. If you encounter issues, you should turn off ad blocking.
Firewalla's adblocker is a lot weaker than many of the desktop versions of Adblocker. Here is the reason, in order to 'block ads' more effectively, the adblocker will need to access inside the data stream and manipulate unencrypted data. Firewalla by design will never ever look at your data, and only will only look at metadata. This is the reason Firewalla will only block certain types of ads. Firewallla will "never" look at your data, so the ad blocker will never be as effective as the ones that are running on your browser.
To test try this:
NOW A WARNING
Adblock is NOT a normal feature to have. It is like a cat and mouse game of advertiser platforms pushing ads and the blockers blocking them. Technology will move forward, and the disturbance to normal browsing may happen.
- You may be experiencing content not loading ...
- The website may complain you have an adblocker on ...
When this happens, please disable adblocker, if you can send us the link that's causing trouble to firstname.lastname@example.org
We do not, and will never ever claim we can block all ad's. That's just not possible.
