    My curiosity makes me wonder; does the Gold Plus have a faster Intel processor than the Gold?  I am interested because CAKE SQM, fq_codel's successor, requires more CPU than fq_codel.  ("CAKE SQM" is a Feature Request and TBD on Firewalla's Smart Queue documentation page.)

    Firewalla does NOT support Cake. It supports FQM via FQ_CODEL. Cake is known to be a bit more CPU intensive than fq_codel. The QoS we listed in the 2nd comment is the speed with fq_codel.

    It would be nice if your team can write up a page about how to have Plus to co-exist with the current Gold in other LAN/VLAN. This may help other folks to justify for a new Plus.

    BTW, will you guys plan to support SSDP or other LAN device discovery protocols using by Sonos Speakers, Amazon Echo Dot, or other IoT hubs? I think this is a must feature if you want to position Firewalla to prosumer market given these are some of the most popular smart home devices. Currently, we have hard time to isolate all IoT devices including SONOS if our phones or Tablets are on different vlan from phones’ vlan.

    @rogcisco this is fairly simple to set up.

    You want a site-to-site VPN.  Each network needs to have a unique subnet. We use WireGuard (as opposed to OpenVPN). We set all internet traffic to go out the local connection and not over the VPN.

    Read this and this document.

    This doesn't work with IPv6.

    There should be no issue with SSDP or other LAN device discovery protocols. Are you running into issues? Can you please be specific?

    In regards to the ports, what will the HDMI port be used for?  Additionally as far as the USB port, what is the speed of the interface and can you add an external hard drive?

    I have noticed that the operating temp of the Firewalla Gold Plus is 32°F to 95°F (with airflow) however the org Firewalla Gold is 32°F to 122°F (with airflow).  Is there a particular reason for the decrease in temp range when both products have the same processor?

    I would like to know the same question as Steven in regards to the operating temperature decrease.  If this is correct, I will need to cancel my order. I live in Phoenix and it's regularly over 100 F during the summer in the closet my network devices are in.

    @steven

    1. HDMI can be used to connect to a monitor. USB port is 3.0

    2. Operating temperature change is due to the CPU used being a 10Watt (compared to 6Watt in the original gold). The 2.5gbit MAC is also hotter when running at 2.5gbit mode

    @firewalla how cool would it be to run the web interface or the MSP portal off the HDMI port. Is there CPU and memory available to run Chromium?

    @thiel anything in that closet is going to run less fast then they can and have a shorter life. How do you have an inside space running that hot?

    I think we did a cut/paste of the operating temperature. The real value is likely to be upper bound 45C. (113F). Will confirm and update the spec early next week. The Gold RevB is likely at 45C as well.

    @chris it's a home network panel.  It has a 24port POE Switch (Operating Temp up to 104F), Internet modem (Operating Temp up to 122F), Smarthome hub (Operating Temp up to 104F).  I live in AZ.  Home temp inside is 80 during the summer when it averages 105F degrees outside.  Even keeping the inside temp at 80F our electric bill is around $700/mo.  So I would imagine the temp in that panel would be over 95F during the summer. And no I have not seen any drop in performance when I measured it. No issues with the Gold over the last 2 years.   That's why I am asking about the 95F limit for the Gold plus.

    I'll note that it would be great if the Gold Plus USB 3.0 port supported Ethernet Adapters for an additional WAN/LAN using an adapter like the TP-LINK TL-UE300 USB 3.0 to RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter (Gold and Purple too). I just created a Feature Request for this:

    "...how cool would it be to run the web interface or the MSP portal off the HDMI port. Is there CPU and memory available to run Chromium?"

    There's never enough CPU or memory to run Chromium! lulz

    @Topher, also ...  having chrom running inside the firewalla will likely increase the attack surface of the firewalla itself.

    Gold Plus will be on Ubuntu 22, and with this effort, the same image will work on the Gold Original and Gold Version B. (Note, you don't need to update unless you are heavy into doing stuff inside the firewalla)

    We hope to get 22.04 Gold Original / Gold Version B in a week or two. That image will likely run the Gold Plus

    Would be nice if that image was up to date on all 22.04 patches as well.... Just saying.... :)

    Or even better, a list of things we can update without breaking anything... Again, just saying...

    Can you please confirm that you will continue to develop and support new features on the Firewalla Gold after the Firewalla Gold Plus is released?

    When I originally bought the Firewalla Blue, the Firewalla Blue Plus was released immediately right after  and many new features were developed that worked on Firewalla Blue Plus but not on Firewalla Blue.  I wasn't too happy about that.  I'm hoping this won't happen again with Firewalla Gold vs. Firewalla Gold Plus.

    @Alak

    The Gold Original, Gold Version B, and Gold Plus all use the same exact image. So whatever changes for any of the platforms will be available for the other. For example, So it does not matter what unit you purchase, the software will be the same. They have the same amount of memory, and disk resources.

    The blue and blue+ are different, since blue+ has 2G memory, which allows it to do more things.
