    All the access points need to be locally managed by a firewall instance, somewhat like firewalla -> AP. There is no option to have a firewall on a remote site to manage APs at another site. Your firewalla is part of the zero trust solution, it needs to be there.

    There will likely be functions in the MSP (future) that require you to manage everything together; this is pending "requests" from MSPs.

    How many AP’s will a Firewalla Gold Pro support? Also, outside of security policy, are the AP’s standalone or does the FW manage the AP’s from a wireless perspective such as roaming, load balancing devices, analytics, or other services? Thank you!

    • Early Access (for our earliest supporters at the lowest price, available mid- to late-December 2024. Must be running Firewalla Gold (v1 & v2), Gold SE, Gold Plus or Gold Pro in router mode)
    • Beta Access (about 1 month later, available mid-January 2025. Must be running Firewalla Purple or Gold series units in router mode)

    @Andy, at the moment, max 10 APs. This is just a soft limit, we can add more if needed.  AP's are NOT standalone, they are access points, and need the firewalla to run it. Firewalla unit will run the 'controller' which take cares of roaming and configuration tasks.

    @Firewalla Thank you for clarification. 10 more than suits my needs.  I look forward to the day I need that many for my home and property.  Great for Small/Medium Business.  I'm also happy to learn the FW is the controller.  So much you can do with that now and over time.  Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to you all!

    The back is not that interesting, you will see a 10gbit rj45, 2.5gbit rj45, a USB port and a power port, a button not used, that's pretty much yet ...

    Is it possible to utilize the 10gb port for a 100mbit device with the 2.5gb going to the firewalla gold se? I use eero this way so it has my window shade's mandatory hub behind it because I only have one Ethernet run to the laundry where I need the AP and the hub for best signal to all windows.

    @Firewalla, I read through the comments again. You mentioned 802.11kvr. Does that mean you could run one of these units with another brand, broadcasting the same SSID?

    AP7 is an indoor unit, so it is not required to use AFC.

    @troy, to support seamless roaming, there is a need to exchange some keys with each AP, so may not be that easy to get that key to different AP

    @Firewalla Indoor APs can, and do, support AFC for standard power mode. Required, no. Good to have? Yes. I use AFC with my indoor APs for extra 6 GHz coverage.

    will AFC help/improve the wall penetration ? ( here in the U.S is wood wall construction with insulations). i have 3 Asus APs and they are 30 ft apart with 3 walls between each of them.

    @dummykid yes, AFC enables "SP" or "standard power" mode for indoor APs. This increased power would help offset the increased attenuation that happens at 6 GHz. That is precisely why I have it enabled on my APs. It increases range.

    AFC def can be used indoors to help extend range, but I am unsure for better wall penetration. 

     

    Even wood walls in the US do cause some issues

    Remember txPower also means the device themselves; meaning, unless the transmit power is balanced, the benefit may not be that much. In a small network like homes/small business, having high txPower is still unknown to us.

    I have six eeros (five 6e and one 7 max). Are there plans for you to sell 2 or 3 packs at a discount to make this an easier pill to swallow? Sounds like I should not order initially if there is a limit of 3 for now?

    can you mix use EERO 6E and 7 Max ? I had been using EERO Pro for about 3 years with its subscription until I tried to upgraded to EERO Pro 6 and 6E, and I was told I could not mix use Wifi 6 and 6E in EERO.

    At the moment, we don't plan to sell a two- or three-pack unit bundle. We'd rather keep unit prices low so you can scale your network as needed and not worry about buying more than needed.

    For those who joined early access, it is possible that once we have AP7 out of early access mode, we may send you a coupon to get an additional unit (in case you need one more) at a discount.

    You can add the AP7s as a new SSID and leave your Eero's running as is; You shouldn't use the same SSID+password for both networks, since the controls on the AP7 is going to be a lot more, and even SSID+password, your device may have problems roaming.
