Firewalla records network flows to give you a comprehensive history of all inbound and outbound traffic on your network.
Remember: all traffic graphs in Firewalla can be tapped. After tapping, a flow table will be presented, and you can then navigate the hours. Sometimes the graph may appear to be empty; tapping into the graph may show minor flows.
If your Firewalla Network Flow Graph or List is empty, but you are sure that devices are able to access the Internet, please check the following:
-
Make sure Firewalla is reachable on App.
On your Firewalla's main screen, make sure the page can refresh successfully to ensure App can communicate with box without issue. If App can't reach box, please check Troubleshooting Guide: Firewalla Box Is Unreachable via App first.
-
Make sure your device is physically connected to the Firewalla network.
If a device connects to a network "upstream" or outside of Firewalla’s control, its traffic cannot be monitored. Check your physical topology:
Router Mode: Devices must connect to the Firewalla’s LAN/Wi-Fi, not the ISP modem/router.
Bridge Mode: Devices must connect behind Firewalla rather than directly to your router.
-
Make sure the Firewalla monitoring mode is enabled.
From your Firewalla's main screen, tap Settings > Features > Mode > ensure Monitoring is ON. Learn more about what happens when Monitoring is off.
-
Make sure your device has monitoring enabled.
From your Firewalla's main screen, tap Devices > tap into your affected device > scroll down > ensure Monitoring is ON. Learn more about what happens when Monitoring is off.
-
Check if you have any network extenders.
These extenders will hide MAC or randomize the real MAC addresses, which can make devices appear as something else. Please avoid using network extenders if possible.
-
Check if your devices are connected to an automatic "Guest" Wi-Fi network.
Some popular Wi-Fi access points automatically create a "Guest" Wi-Fi network, which is invisible to Firewalla, making it difficult to track their network flows. Please disable these networks if possible.
Please try visiting https://diag.firewalla.com/ with your browser and check the status of the Services Used By Firewalla. If the status is "unavailable", please make sure you're not blocking these services, as Firewalla needs them to operate.
If you still can't see any network traffic, feel free to open a support case. If you have an issue opening a case, please send an email to help@firewalla.com.
