Not totally crazy about that gap where the connections are. Is there going to be a cover for that portion?

I know you all mentioned before that the unit generates a lot of heat which is why it's not flush to the wall but that larger opening will be a little unsightly.

Do you mean the ethernet port side? no, there is no cover. If we sell enough of these, we probably can convince our supplier to make one.

Are there recommended POE Injectors for 2.5/10g that Firewalla has tested for the Ceiling AP7?

Ali Alsaleh Do you mean to make it flush with the outside and bottom edges, but still have access for the up to 3 things (not counting the USB) plugging into it?   I bet someone can make up some 3d printer files once the units release.  :)

Troy Dampier as long as the injector is PoE+, and rated for 10G or 2.5G (your switch speed) you should be fine.

It would be nice to have at least a couple of tested configurations as there are so many to choose from and I have no POE switches :)  What is the requirements for the POE injector to supply to the Ceiling AP7?

@Troy, just find a PoE+ injector. That’s all that matters.

@Firewalla That back gap is huge. I think you just talked me out of replacing my 3 EnGenius units with 3 AP7s.

I've got a 3D printer and scanner so i'll try to build one and put it out there. i would think something just to follow the profile as a cover to hid the look of wiring.

I can see where it may show if it's in the middle of a large room. If that side is close to a wall it may not make as much of a difference. Can the AP7C be mounted into ceiling drywall, or is it heavy enough the bracket nees to be in a stud?

AP7C with the included anchors /stud/plastic plugs (I have no idea the name) should work with ceiling drywall. The unit is pretty heavy, as its backside is all metal

If you think the plastic anchors will not work, use a moly bolts. Both Desktop and Ceiling Units weigh 1.4lbs.each

Can you please make these links to articles like this easier to get to under the support area?  Sometimes all the information is difficult to find.  Thanks

Quick question: is this AP7 Ceiling installation guide good enough? or do you need a video? https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/39299429555603-Firewalla-Access-Point-7-Ceiling-Mount-Installation-Guide

The installation guide for a single gang box shows when the box is only horizontal. What if we have a vertically installed box that we want to mount it on. Will it work? Will the AP be mounted sideways in that case? Or can it still clip into the bracket correctly on a vertical box?

The AP7 Ceiling is a square, you may have the logo in different directions if you rotate the single gang box (I assumed this is not a an issue since you are mounting it over the ceiling)

Well the single gang boxes are on the wall and not the ceiling. So it sounds like in that case the AP would be mounted sideways.

Single gang boxes can be mounted long side vertical or horizontally. Probably want “old work” option with locking ears. Looks like the base connector has a fixed orientation onto a single gang box.

Tyler the orientation shouldn't matter right, even if you are on a wall, you more worry about the logo not the right orientation?

Yeah, honestly it’s my OCD that’s worried about a sideways logo not necessarily the AP performance being affected.

For your information, the final price of the AP7 ceiling is $365.78, adjusted to the recent March tariff increase. Those signed up before the sale will receive a per-unit beta discount coupon. (we refer to this as half beta). The AP7 Desktop once we get the next batch, the price will go to the same level.

Totally reasonable. Appreciate you guys fighting to keep the cost down with all these tariff pressures being applied!

    • There is a 30% chance we may airlift some units and have them ship on 4/16 (a very limited number).
    • The overall quantity we made is somewhat based on the survey results.
    • Shipping should be in FIFO order and is expected to be completed within 30 days after the sale.
