    If you’re AP can’t reach 10G speeds, then why bother installing 10G instead of 5G? I’m just curious.
    Or after all, its capable of 10G of combined throughput traffic of all connected devices working simultaneously?

    Likely because there are almost no 5gb capable chipset that aren't also 10gb capable. It is an extremely uncommon max port speed

    Yes, you can't find any 5Gbit switches out there, and since not many devices are running 5gbit, even if a 10gbit switch can support 5gbit, by not being very common, there will be problems.

    When will we know we are on the beta list?

    I don't think we will do a beta list this time. It will be just a normal sale with the final unit + beta software at a discounted price. If you purchase it, it will ship FIFO. (We can't do the pre-sale/crowdfunding due to 1/20 with all the unknowns in US politics.) The pre-sale will be USA only.

    If you would care to read the bullet point just above that link, you would see that 1/7/2025 is the early access purchase date.

    I am assuming you won't be able to order them until 1/7/25 at the earliest and they will show up to order on this link?

    Please see the top of the post on the sales date. The ordering link will point to this forum until the launch date, we just move to the real product and you can order.

    So I'm trying to guess if I can order in early access or if it will be later.  What's the cut-off for being a FW owner for early access?  I don't run beta software currently so it's either hope for that or wait longer for the public release. :-\

    We have a finite number of early access units, and they will likely be gone quickly. So, if you do need one, please order early (beta code on your firewalla is required). If you want to wait for production units, you will have to wait a bit; these units will be full-price and likely ship in March or April.

    How are you verifying someone is running beta code in order to qualify to purchase? Or do you mean it just wouldn't work without beta code installed?

    Firewalla, will the POE version also be out in the March/April time frame?

    Beta Q&A:

    • Firewalla AP7 will be running in beta mode. (code is beta, may change often, may have less serious bugs)
    • You will need a Firewalla box (gold/purple) and a running box beta code in router mode. (this is where the controller is at; without this AP7 will not run)
    • You will need to use Firewalla App 1.64 (beta soon) without this, your AP7 can't run.

    Outside USA orders

    • There will be a "world" version with a different SKU.
    • We will have more information around 1/20 on the timing/release
    • Early access sale is USA only;

    Can we wait until the AP on sale to switch to the firewalla beta software?

    Yes, you can wait until you get the units and turn on beta.

    Does the micro segmentation/password specific grouping work with 3rd party managed switches? I currently have a QNAP managed switch and have configured VLAN tagging for the VLANs defined in the firewalla app. If I connect the APs to that switch, do I need to do anything special?

    @Firewalla
    Will the ceiling mounts be early access at a discounted rate when they come out or do we need to preorder when you release the desktop version?

    SSID+ personal key (WPA2 only) + VLAN is sometimes called dynamic VLAN; With this you will be able to color any device with a VLAN ID. Once the VLAN ID is there, it really doesn't matter what devices you have behind.

    Firewalla, have you tested the range vs the Eero Max 7? I have one far away camera on my dock that connects and just want make sure it still will.

    @Firewalla,

    I'm not an expert and had a couple questions after reading through your articles

    • Will VqLAN function if you have multiple Firewalla's hanging off the same unmanaged switch? (Ie 2x FW AP7's --> Unmanaged Switch --> Firewalla GP
    • Documentation notes: "Microsegmentation with personal keys is only supported on networks with WPA2 or WPA/WPA2 security settings. The 6 GHz band is not available if microsegments are enabled." Does this mean if we are using Microsegmentation without personal key we will have the 6ghz band available? Also, is there plans to remove this limitation in the future?
    • Noted that "in the future, there will be policies to allow devices to talk across VqLAN-enabled groups" Is there an estimated timeline for this?
    • If you have multiple FW AP's are you able to pin a device to specific AP to prevent it from roaming and what does the "Optomize Wi-Fi Experience" (in screenshots) button do?

    Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    @Troy, I'd say the range is comparable (both are using 2.4ghz). It is really hard to do testing since eero doesn't have all the knobs to adjust, we can't really do an apple-to-apple comparison
