    FYI, a small change in the Gold Pro fan covers; the bottom one is the prototype, and the top is the final version. So far, the change is no worse (and hopefully is better) than the bottom version. Definitely looks symmetrical.

    We will be optimizing fan + heat + performance very soon

    @Firewalla The top one is much more aesthetically pleasing and probably gets more passive cooling as well.

    I will take the case off,
    drill a hundred holes,
    and attach a huge sucking fan on top.

    @Veli, that sounds like too much work. I was thinking of going with a water cooled system and putting a few ice cubes on top of the case every day. Ice will absorb energy and melt and then the water will absorb energy and evaporate. Thinking that this will be fairly efficient.

    What kind of application are you all doing that is so intensive it is potentially thermally throttled and needs that kind of cooling?

    The lifespan is temperature limited

    Seriously, there is no need to do anything extra with the vents. Our ODM team is pretty good at designing these things.

    Can we use some of that storage for containers like the plus? Especially with the extra RAM

    @firewalla

    Sorry forgot to ask

    Will the WiFi module work on the Pro and if it does, would you consider putting another USB socket on the back so it doesn't obscure the front of the unit.

    @mikehuxley : opinions?
    @firewalla
    Can one buy in the same package as the Gold Pro the WiFi module?
    Is it already WiFi 7?
    How about a WiFi 7 Pro module?

    Judging by the information above, it is too early to buy this box. I think you should develop it a little more and do research and development. Don't use your customers for testing.

    I chose to wait until it is released before I buy. I would rather know exactly what every spec is before I spend my money.

    I also want to see reviews done by a diverse set of customers to see how it performs. Not sure what bug might exist in the first version.

    Would like to see a rev2 with the features asked for by folks in this thread. The design seems like it was set in stone before this thread was created. None of the suggestions seemed to be included in the design.

    @mikehuxley,

    • you should be able to use an external USB storage with this unit;
    • WiFiSD works with the unit.
    • No plan for WiFi 7-based WiFiSD yet. Most of failover wifi are pretty slow ...

    @adem

    To be clear, we are NOT asking the community to test.  A while back we did a poll of the look of the fan holes, and this is just to respond to the comments received, and hopefully, more people will like this version

    I personally am absolutely fine with the approach taken by Firewalla in this pre order approach. I do not feel we are being used, if anything I am really happy they are doing this. Feel free to stand at the side if you are not comfortable, it's not for everyone , but if you are, please can you keep the opinions to yourself please. Firewalla are not making you do it, however if you decide to, they are giving you up to $260 off and an extra 6 months warrenty to say thank you. In my book, that is a nice incentive

    @firewalla
    I want to buy the current WiFiSD module into the same shipping when Gold Pro arrives.
    Is this feasible?
    @mikehuxley
    I am also happy with everything so far. Go Zilla, go!

    Firewalla releases quality products and I have yet to regret committing to their products during these initial sales; hard part now is waiting the 8 or 9 months for the final product to ship, but understand that this time is being used for development, testing, and QA.

    I also appreciate the relationship that Firewalla has with us; very uncommon to find this day and age.

    If you are curious about the 7 months wait

    • Hardware certification. (happening now)
    • Manufacturing tooling. (the metal case, for example, needs costly molds to produce)
    • Manufacturing (mostly waiting for parts and the PCB)
    • Shipping (port to port is 45 days or more)
    • Lots of buffering :)
    • It is fairly easy to produce 100 units (beta for example), but for mass production, it takes a lot of work

    I can believe that. Well keep up the good work and please keep us posted. It's great what you guys are doing.
    I would be interested to hear if your developers have any new features planned for the release of the Pro

    @GamerZer0 The black one is the next version. ;-)  Firewalla Gold Black or Firewalla Gold Mega or Firewalla Gold Epic (for the Zoomers).

    I think 4 10g ports would push the price up and heat. Remember this is supposed to be a sub 1 grand device. I do like that black case idea though 👍

    I second the vote for the black limited edition, perhaps similar style and finish as the other models :)

    And as much as I am in the “passive cooling” camp, I love my Gold so much and have such a tremendous respect for the Firewalla team and their approach and ability to execute that I couldn’t resist and preordered the Pro, super excited!
