Please give us the ability to upgrade the RAM ourselves as well :). An sfp+ option would also be super nice.

My ideal configuration with this setup would be 1x sfp+, 1 10g RJ45 and 2 2.5g, along with 8GB of RAM.

My ISP uses RJ45 for 5gbps service. For their 10, 25 and 50 gig options, they provide an SFP+ adapter.

Also, if you do use sfp+, having a few certified RJ45 adapter and DAC cable options would be great!

May I suggest “Firewalla Platinum” as a name to distinguish it from the Gold line up?

Take my money! Take it now!

Thank you all @firewalla, you rock, and thank you for listening to the community! Will have a perfect 2024 Christmas!

For us to push forward and not add any more cost to the unit, we are going to go with

    • 2x2.5Gbit (RJ45 operating at 100Mbit, 1Gbit, 2.5Gbit)
    • 2x10Gbit (RJ45 operating at 1Gbit, 2.5Gbit, 5Gbit, 10Gbit)
    • 4GB of RAM (we will ask them to make this as a module) xxx
    • A variable speed/silent fan
    • Delivery by Christmas 2024

We will submit this to our ODM first thing Monday morning and have them give us a final quote and timeline of the project. If we can sell the unit below 1000 dollars, we will officially kick off the project and pay the deposit.

Due to the broad interest, we will likely do a pre-sale to drive down the price further.

The above process will likely take about one week.

Here is our designer's render of the latest.

We will jump into naming after we get the board ready.

Will anyone care if the box size is a little bit big?

    • 1.75 inch tall. (rack mount 1U height)
    • Width is going to be around 8 inches (+/- 1 inch)
    • Depth is TBD
    • We will likely provide simple rabbit ears for mounting as an option.

That size is fine please provide rack ears for it that would be awesome! :)

Question for the community, beyond the dual 10gbit interface, should we include two extra 2.5gbit interfaces? Or one 2.5gbit is enough?

I assume the 2.5gbit can be used for Dual WAN.

Last time I checked all the PCIe Lanes are full. 2x2.5G and 2x10G is likely the max this thing can run at "wire speed"

@firewalla I don’t think PoE is needed. I also don’t think WiFi is needed in the box. People say they want the god or uber box all the time just like Cisco ISR’s but as we know that creates a lot of complexity, support issues, and increased price. My preference would be to make a better version of Firewalla with enough CPU/RAM/Storage headroom to take full advantage of 10Gig links as software stack continues to mature and add features. Thank you for all you all are doing! (I own multiple Firewallas plus have convinced friends to buy them). Great products!

    Update:

    • PCB + Board started, hopefully, we get something back by mid-March.
    • Our boss is meeting our vendor's boss in person today, and hopefully, they can move pricing forward. Or at least give pre-sale a bigger discount.

    Important Update:

    • We may be able to lower the pre-order price to the lower end of $800 (With the launch coupon, you should be able to get the unit at $7xx)
    • The launch coupon will be sent to everyone either Thursday or Friday (USA/Pacific Time) this week. It can only be used in the first 24 hours of the launch. (from 4/2/2024 9AM to 4/3/2024 9AM PACIFIC TIME) There are no exceptions to this window.
    • We may limit the number of units you can order.
    • All pre-orders will get an extra six months of warranty (our standard is 1 year). (starting from the day you receive the unit)
    • We are working on the product page, and looking forward to the launch

    Quick Update
    1. We started the mounting tray (version B)
    2. We are hoping (aggressively) to have Gold Pro beta units ready in the first week of July.
    3. The Gold Pro survey will remain open until the beta is shipping.

Seems the memory price is going up, 4GB is closer to 8GB ... so we may just provide 8GB on this unit.

    Update:

We will start the PCB design once everyone in ASIA is back to work and, in parallel, work on the discounts and manufacturing planning with our vendor. We will know in 15 to 30 days if we can launch or not.

    Update:

    • We should be able to build pre-order units at a decent (or good) price (bulk discounts). Future pricing is unknown, but it shouldn't be more than $1100 to $1200. (unless there are any unknown geo-political events or parts shortage)
    • (aggressively) We will know for sure in early March on the full schedule. And pre-order pricing info in the middle of March
    • (aggressively) Pre-orders start in early April
    • Delivery date for the first batch, before Christmas 2024

Engineering will be busy once our manufacturing operations person carries these back from Taipei :) I was told this morning the unit does power up, and there is a prompt.

Please stop discussing SFP+; the firewall team has already responded so many times. At the moment, the unit is real, and in the $850 price range, I would be happy to jump and buy two!

And thank you, Firewalla team! I am happy with RJ45 ports.

FYI, a small change in the Gold Pro fan covers; the bottom one is the prototype, and the top is the final version. So far, the change is no worse (and hopefully is better) than the bottom version. Definitely looks symmetrical.

We will be optimizing fan + heat + performance very soon

Here is the sample of the rack mount for the Gold Pro. This one estimated price will be around $49. The other option is two simple rabbit ears (two plates, no tray). This one likely cost $19. Unfortunately, we can only build one kind, as it is very expensive to create the tooling.

We are preparing a simple survey for those who purchased the Gold Pro in a week or two to vote on this.

The official Gold Pro beta image (candidate 1), as measured locally (PPPoE local server), can do 7.5gbit download, 5.5gbit upload. PPPoE only. Once we have the official image fully tested, we will change the official numbers to these
