Does it have built-in wifi like purple?

Just added a chart (preliminary, the operating temperature for example, may be higher)

    - Power usage is likely much lower (6 to 10W compare to Gold Plus 10 to 15W)

    - There is NO wifi on these. (but you can use WiFiSD for WiFi WAN)

"There will be early beta units available to test (same hardware + beta software)"

is there a special signup for this? I'm willing to be a guinea pig on beta software (need a fw upgrade right now)... how soon would beta units ship?

We usually send out requests to supporters and pick those fit our profile. For example, in this round, in addition to people with 2gbit+ networks, we also interested in more the 1.4 or 1.5gbit people.

The tentative price for the presale is $439! If we get more signups, this price can go lower! With the launch coupon (limited use on the first day), it will be a great deal, and perfect opportunity for a upgrade from some of the early platforms

is $439 AFTER coupon is applied? or you mean to say people who order on first day presale could get much better deal than $439 which may be the standard price after first day (couponless sales)?

$439 is before coupon. So, if you buy with the coupon, you will get additional $ off this.

    Coupon:

    • limited use for the first 24 hour use only.
    • The number of uses is also limited. (so buy early on the launch day)
    • We will send out the coupon June 9th or June 8th

Will there be an option for a UK plug on the charger?

Am I seeing this correctly that the Purple (500MB) has better WireGuard Performance than the Gold SE(350MB)?
I was all ready to preorder this until I noticed this.

@Stefan, I am not sure what you mean by Europe friendly shipment. We do offer two plans, one is the standard rate, slower ... and a faster expedited shipping

@BryanT292877, if you are after better WireGuard performance, you should get the Gold Plus. The Gold SE is a balanced system, with enough CPU to handle quad ports, and also provides decent VPN speed.

@Nociaf, the power source to the purple is USB-C, 3A. So either you can get an adapter from us, or just use your existing usb-c charger. (ours is just a simple adapter https://firewalla.com/collections/all/products/universal-plug)

Answer a few of the common questions since this morning

    1. The current price (as of now) is $429, if more people sign up before the launch, we can lower this price.

    2. The launch coupon will be mailed this coming Friday.

    3. the launch coupon has a usage cap, so ... buy early

    4. If you buy the WiFi SD + Gold SE, we will ship both together to you.

@firewalla do you ship from a Europe based warehouse or from outside the EU? The latter could mean paying additional taxes to have it cleared from customs.

We do not ship from an EU-based warehouse. The Gold's usually ships from HK, or from California, whichever is cheapest.

@1980cyber, so far, there is no limit on the units. (but ... the launch coupon use is limited, so best to get them early).

In terms of comparison to the Purple, is this rather similar just in a metal enclosure (minus WiFi and adding 2.5Gbps with additional ports)? From what I was able to find, the Gold SE has 4GB RAM and 4 cores compared to the Purple with 2GB RAM and 6 cores. As someone else also posted, the Wireguard performance on the Gold SE is 350 Mbps versus 500 Mbps on the Purple. Is this accurate? I was considering replacing my home Purple with a Gold SE and taking the Purple on the road with me, but it seems like a bit of a downgrade...

I wouldn't call a purple->Gold a downgrade. These units are optimized for different things. The Gold units are all about segmentation and multi-port I/O (and expanding a bit with containers). The Purple units are for simplicity and also a bit of portability and casual use.

If you feel wireguard performance is important to you, you can just stay with the Purple. That unit does have a strong CPU (6 cores), and a much weaker I/O (hence dual port). (The Gold SE is more balanced with a quad core CPU and more PCI for ethernet ports I/O)

Congratulations firewalla on another great & reasonable product! Satisfied owner of a firewalla gold plus and two firewalla purples here! The Wireguard VPN speed on my gold plus doesn't skip a beat and is very fast! I always have it enabled on my phone to avoid ads and other unnecessary connections. I always look forward to what will firewalla do next. Keep it up! 👍

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I’m currently borrowing a spare FWG from a friend but he needs it back in a couple weeks. I was about to buy a FWG+ to future-proof for 2.5Gbps internet, but the Gold SE would do that and save me a decent bit of money, especially if I buy during the pre-sale.

Question is: I’ve done a lot of work configuring this loaner FWG to my liking - groups, rules, lab network, etc. Will the app on my iPhone allow me to transfer the config to a new Firewalla - be it the FWG+ or the Gold SE?

And a follow up - I plan to replace my current iPhone this Fall. Is the config data saved up my account in the cloud or is it local to the iPhone, and if so, since I have the Firewalla app included in iCloud backup, will it transfer to my new phone when I do a restore? Thanks!

Yes, when you are installing the new unit, you should be able to migrate your FWG to the FWG-SE. (https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015356093-How-to-migrate-data-from-one-Firewalla-Box-to-another-) Please do not delete the old "firewalla" app or the icon.

The configuration is saved on your phone and the firewalla box. After you get your new phone, you can use this to pair it https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004369774-Adding-a-new-phone-to-manage-an-existing-Firewalla
