- If your Firewalla is running in DHCP mode, all devices monitored by firewalla are automatically put in the overlay network.
On Firewalla Red, Blue, and Blue Plus, overlay network configuration can be found in Settings -> Advanced -> Network Settings -> Overlay network. You'll need to configure the static IP addresses for your devices according to the DHCP range of your overlay network.
Here are some tutorials on how to assign a static IP address to a device, so that it is joined to the overlay network. Before you start, make sure your device is connected to the same network that Firewalla Box is running in.
In the examples below, we'll take 192.168.218.0/24 as the subnet of the overlay network.
Configure Static IP Address in Mac OS X
Step 1: Open "System Preference" -> "Network".
Step 2: Click On "Advanced…" on the bottom right corner. Click on "TCP/IP", change Configure IPv4 method from "Using DHCP" to "Manually"
Step 3: Set IPv4 Address to any IP Address between 192.168.218.2 to 192.168.218.254, make sure it's not duplicate with other devices; Subnet Mask-> "255.255.255.0"; Router -> "192.168.218.1"
Step 4: Click on "DNS", set "DNS Servers" -> "8.8.8.8" or local DNS.
Step 5: Click "OK" -> "Apply".
Configure Static IP Address for Apple TV
Step 1: On your Apple TV home screen, Go to "Settings" -> "General"-> "Network".
Step 2: Select the "WiFi" -> "Configure IP", change from "Automatic" to "Manual ". Assign a static IP Address between 192.168.218.2 and 192.168.218.254, make sure it's not duplicate with other devices; Subnet Mask-> "255.255.255.0"; Router -> "192.168.218.1".
Step 3: Select "Configure DNS", change from "Automatic" to "Manual ", set DNS to "8.8.8.8" or local DNS.
Step 4: Select "Done" -> "OK".
Configure Static IP Address in iOS
Step 1: Go to "Settings" -> "WLAN".
Step 2: Tap on the "i" icon on the right side of the WiFi you are connected to, under "IPv4 Address", change Configure IP method from "Automatic" to "Manual".
Step 3: Assign a static IP Address between 192.168.218.2 and 192.168.218.254, make sure it's not duplicate with other devices; Subnet Mask-> "255.255.255.0"; Router -> "192.168.218.1". Tap on "Save".
Step 4: Scroll down and find "DNS", change Configure DNS method from "Automatic" to "Manual", Set DNS Servers -> "8.8.8.8" or local DNS. Tap on "Save".
Configure Static IP Address in Windows
Step 1: Go "Settings" -> "Network & Internet" ->"Wi-Fi"
Step 2: Click on the WiFi you are connected to, scroll down, find "IP Settings", click "Edit"
Step 3: Change the setting from "Automatic (DHCP)" to "Manual", and turn on "IPv4". Assign a static IP Address between 192.168.218.2 and 192.168.218.254, make sure it's not duplicate with other devices; Subnet prefix length->"24"; Gateway -> "192.168.218.1"; Preferred DNS -> "8.8.8.8" or local DNS. If the UI you see refers to "Subnet mask" instead, the equivlent of subnet prefix length in subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
Step 4: Save the change.
Configure Static IP Address in Android
Step 1: Go "Settings" ->"Wi-Fi", tap and Hold the connected Wi-Fi, tap on "Modify Network".
Step 2: Tap on "Advanced options", change "IP Settings" from "DHCP" to "Static".
Step 3: Assign a static IP Address between 192.168.218.2 and 192.168.218.254, make sure it's not duplicate with other devices; Gateway -> "192.168.218.1", Network prefix length -> "24"; DNS-> "8.8.8.8" or local DNS.
Step 4: Save the changes.
