When the Firewalla overlay network is primarily used by the DHCP mode. Where all of your devices are automatically put into that network, there is no extra configuration. In simple mode (VPN Client feature is only supported in Firewalla overlay network) you can also join that network manually.
In Simple mode, when the device joins the overlay network, all security features will be automatically done, there is no spoofing involved. (In case your device is sensitive to spoofing, or you want a cleaner implementation of device isolation)
By default, the overlay network is 192.168.218.0/24.
Here are some tutorials of how to assign a static IP address to a device, so that it is joined in the overlay network. Before you start, make sure your device is connected to the same network that Firewalla Box is running in.
