For those that have recently seen the issue, when did you receive your Purple? I'm just wondering if this was/is an early manufacturing issue that's been (mostly) fixed or if there still a high chance my replacement will eventually see this issue.

I guess the better question would have been has anyone had the issue with a later (not pre-order indiegogo) purchase? Mine was from the indiegogo campaign also.

    @Rich T.

I funded for two Firewalla Purples in Indiegogo back in July 20, 2021 and got them on January 27, 2022. One was for me and the other for my parent's house. I'm a heavy power user and I first started having the slow download issue around 6 months ago.

Firewalla team suggested me to do some stuff first such as switching to beta release. This didn't fix it. They asked me to enable remote help and give them the code so they can remotely fix it. They were indeed able to fix it for a while (about 3 months) but then I started having the same issue again and none I did fix it including firewalla tech trying to remote fix it again. They finally asked to send it back to them for a replacement. They were nice enough to cross-ship a brand new one to me and got it in about a week.

The new firewalla purple they sent me worked flawlessly right away after installing it to my network and transferring my settings. I'm using a firewalla gold plus now and have the purple they sent me as back-up.  The firewalla purple on my parent's house is not having any issues up to the present (hopefully none in the future). I'm not sure if this is just bad luck on my side or if it's because of how much more network traffic goes through my firewalla purple compared to the other one. Seeing how many other firewalla purple owners having this same issue concerns me though. The two firewalla purples I got from Indiegogo came together so I'm assuming they're from the same batch. I ordered two and they came packaged together.

    Hope this helps~ 🍻

This is certainly frustrating.  Took me forever to nail down the firewalla as the culprit because I've been so confident in its performance thus far.  Opened a support ticket now and waiting for a response, hoping I don't have to replace the unit.

Was anyone else getting results from the app itself showing high upload throughput, but using the CLI or any connected device speeds between 1-10Mbps?

    @Stefan Nobbe,

Yes, it was happening to me: great internet speeds using the Firewalla app, but no upload speed using any other device.

Even stranger, I have an older wireless router that is capable of performing internet speed tests as well. I have this unit now set up as an AP on the LAN behind the Firewalla. When I was doing internet speed testing from the AP, it was also showing great performance. Very weird.

My FWP has been working perfectly. Then out of no where, my upload speeds dropped significantly. I tried many of the things other above had tried (expect changing WAN link speed) and nothing worked. After 2 days of unusable internet (upload speeds of 0.02 Mbps) I decided to remove FWP and switch my cable modem back into router mode and connected it to my Eero mesh. Everything works (800 Mbps down/40 Mbps up).

I just opened a case with Firewalla (59511) and hope they can tell me how to fix this. I loved the product until now.

Crowbarstrong. I bought mine direct about 6 months ago so not sure if I got an early batch or not…I really hope they can either fox or replace it soon because I loved it.

I am experiencing a very similar problem, except on downloads.  FWP, purchased Dec 19 from Firewalla

    Test #1
    PC to T862G modem - 247d / 12u 11ms

    Test #2
    PC to DD-WRT54 to T862  -  42d / 12u  15ms

    Test 3
    PC to FWP to T862  -  24d / 12u  84ms
    Mobile to T862G modem - 69d  15ms

I've tried EVERYTHING, but with the FWP inline max down is 22 on a 200+ circuit.  But FWP speed test shows 200+ consistently and speedtest PC to the FWP is nearly 100% of 1Gbps.

@philip, I just created a ticket for you. If your slow down is download, the issue is very likely not the 'upload' problem we see here. We can run a few test on your system and see if it is something else. (The most common issue we see is, QoS was applied to the wrong direction)

@firewalla - You can close it. I already have one (59428).  Thx. Will check QOS, although I do no recall enabling it.

@Philip, our developer is asking if you remember adding that rate limit entry, or if you ever used the auto-configuration feature to set up things.

I'm having the same issue with my purple. ISP - 300/20; tested directly connected with modem and got the same speeds. Connected via purple and speeds drops to 1.9 on upload.

My Firewalla Purple shipped end of Jan 21 and recently started having the issue in this thread - upload speed of 0.1Mbs for devices connected on LAN, while a speed test done directly on the purple has expected upload speeds.

I have a ticket open with support and have applied the 100Mbs port fix in the meantime so that the Internet is useable.

In the last 5 days I'm experiencing the same issue. My FW Purple has been bought through indiegogo campaing. I've been in contact with my ISP (1gb line) as i initially thought the issue it's with them - But my PPPOe connection directly from the laptop has more than 700Mbs upload. Through firewalla is bellow 1.

Just received my purple replacement and speeds are back up to 20 Mbs. Excellent support from the Firewalla team.

I just found this thread after struggling with a 0.2 Mbps upload for days. I WFH, so this was awful.

Anyhow, mine is #60841. Also, the command is listed wrong with a capital-S flag at the top of this thread - here's the correct command to drop the port speed and resolve the issue:

    • sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg on

If you want to re-enable the issue (for testing), same command but with the speed set to 1000.

I purchased my Firewalla Purple last April through the Indiegogo campaign. I had the same problem and opened a ticket with Firewalla. After trying remote debugging, they had me ship them the old unit and sent me a brand new unit. I am very happy with the support and love Firewalla Purple, but now looking at so many other people experiencing this issue, I am not so confident about the quality of this product. What are the chances that this problem will not happen in the new unit in 6 to 8 months from now when the product is no longer under warranty?  Firewalla didn't tell me if this was an early batch problem or anything like that, so I don't know what caused it to break all of the sudden after working flawlessly for 9 months. However, I am glad mine broke while it was still under warranty.

Question about the discussion community - I get e-Mail when people post to this thread and sometimes the message is gone when I click "view the comment" - are they being removed, or is/can the user delete them? I got one for a post from 3/1 (14440960334739) that doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Yep. It was my comment and I see it sitting in "Pending Approval" state for the past week. Honestly, this is not helping with my confidence in Firewalla.

When "Pending Approval" happens, it is likely the "forum" feel it is spam. This happens when a user posts to many threads (usually of the same content, or a link), or opens more cases than needed in a short duration (usually of the same text). Sometimes if the post has any bad /sensitive / porn / drugs / violence words, also will get this tag.

Since we get these a lot ... it is hard to get to all of them.

I just release yours and told our team to look after our spam folder more often

I've been experiencing this for months - thought it was a Comcast problem but they actually turned up in person today and showed me the speeds were fine. My workaround for these months was to get a T-mobile home internet gateway and have that connect as primary thru the Purple's Wifi. No upload issues with that so I assumed Purple was fine and it was a cable modem/cable company issue.

After the comcast guy left I started to suspect the Purple, found the Reddit discussions and ended up here. Put a 10/100 switch between the cable modem and Purple WAN interface to force it to 10/100 and - like magic - my uploads speeds are no longer 0.01.

Ticket raised #61878......such a shame as up to this point I've been a super advocate for Firewalla. Hopefully their support comes thru quickly and keeps me singing their praises.

Sorry about that; usually in this case we will need to run a quick test (if your system still running), and once we confirm it is that bad upload issue, we will replace the unit.

I have also been experiencing this issue for about two weeks now ... ticket 61935.  What was throwing me off is the speed test in the firewalla app shows normal uplink speeds   My experience with purple has been great up to this point.

Is the internet speed test normal? if it is, then you are unlikely hitting the upload issue.

    > Is the internet speed test normal? if it is, then you are unlikely hitting the upload issue.

This was not my experience - the internet speed test run directly within the Firewalla app did not show an upload speed issue, but network traffic going via the lan port did have an issue - ie a speed test run on a device on the network would have very slow upload.

My device has been replaced by Firewalla support very quickly, which was great.
