When you are flashing, you should see the ports flashing in a sequence, and it does take may be around 4 or 5 min to complete the process.

I tried today flashing my firewalla gold (currently 18.4.3 LTS) with the image fireupdater-3.0.0929.img.gz (to 22.4 LTS) following the instructions https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/360048626153, but it boots right into the login and not doing any update. I tried it with two different USB. the USB after being flashed with that image is 6.2 GB. Is there anything else that needs to be done after using Etcher and before booting it with the firewalla gold?

very likely that your USB is not booting. Try a different USB, may be a different way of writing the image onto USB drive.

I tried to different USBs and both the same, so I assume that is not the issue, especially that I used those USB for other boots with etcher.

You will need to install this unit as a new unit, please make sure the red dongle is plugged in

DUH what do you think I am doing. opening the app on my mobile which has the original Firewalla onit, but click on new and it does not find the firewalla after 5 minutes and Scanning the QR code also does not allow me to pair the new (aka flashed) Firewalla Gold. And YES the red dongle is in place. WTF

I guess I power cycles it too often, now it does not beep anymore when booted and sit at the login prompt.
