Awesome to see it moving along. Can't wait to see the final look! Is it going to be able to be powered by poe?

Can't believe that pic was only posted 4 days ago, feels much longer :/ I'd rather be ill positioned going into black friday than really hurting afterwards...! Very much looking forward to the update.

Man - I was just looking to getting some Eeros' or Ruckus'.  Now I'm holding off but it's hard with the Black Friday sale upon us.

@uuanRGrant Almost nothing can compete with enterprise grade gear like Ruckus. Eero, Firewalla, Ubiquiti, etc. are all significantly inferior in most ways, except cost. I run Ruckus at home and wouldn't ever run anything else.

@firewalla, is it possible for you to give an update, on the likelihood of us even being able to purchase "pre-order" units this year?

    Thank you!

The Firewalla team is likely very busy and doesn't need to be harassed. I'm sure the team will provide updates when they are ready. If you're already a user of their products, you know they have a solid marketing team.

I've been involved in consumer electronics sales for many years, and Black Friday prices usually apply to products that companies want to liquidate, not to new product launches.

Ruckus only discounts previous-generation models (310, 510, etc.), and eero shouldn't be lumped into any of these discussions. If you need something to tide you over pick up a thee-pack of eero 6+ APs then give them away to a family member when Firewalla comes out.

    Be patient.

@UUan:  You know that you'll end up buying Firewalla APs once they come out.  You buy something else now, sell it at a loss later when you shift to Firewalla APs, or just be patient and wait for Firewalla to come out with their APs.  It'll be a lot less expensive in the long run to wait.  I'm there with you.

@adamzell I agree lumping enterprise grade APs (e.g. Ruckus) in with general consumer grade gear with consumer firmware shouldn't be done. Enterprise grade APs so vastly superior for most home users that are technical enough to walk through basic AP configuration guides for Unleashed. Used enterprise APs are an outstanding value and easily acquired on Ebay and are so much better than consumer APs it's not funny.

We still don't have the full schedule, but it will be happening soon, and hopefully, we will ship some early access units before the end of 2024. We also hope even if you already have a nice AP, you can still use the firewalla AP7 to complement/enhance your network.

How would handoff work between different APs?

We don't have the early access process setup yet. The firewalla AP has a lot of (cool) integration with the firewalla, hence a lot of newer ways of using the network, so we want to have experienced people experience them first, then with the feedback, we can tune it better; this is "early access".

This no different than our other early access/beta programs. Meaning, there will be a very good discount and very close support for the initial set of units.

But only in the US right or will you be doing early access in other countries, selfishly in the UK? I'm going to guess not because of the CA. We'll get what we're given. Haha 😂

    @Firewalla,
What happens if we buy the early access units and we’re not from the US?

Shipping will be restricted to locations where we have certification. FCC will come first, and I believe CE is processing ...

I get it, but once certification resolved will be shipped?

Yes, once we have the certifications, we will enable shipping to the relevant country.

I’m very curious to know what new ways and cool integrations can offer Firewalla AP? I’m curious to know why is FAP much better than any other AP from other brands? :)))

I'm breaking ground on building a house next week, planning to have two APs in the house with wired backhaul, 2 gig fiber internet ready to go. Already using a Firewalla Gold Pro, would love to have an (almost) all Firewalla home. :D

It may take a few more days until I have a nice and clear image; this is just a tease, so please do not blame me for focusing on the keyboard (which is also very nice)

If you are using advanced wifi/mesh, what kind of optimizations are you doing? For example, adjusting things like txpower, running off and on fast roaming, creating ssid's with different frequency combinations?

Unfortunately do not have the options to play with these types of settings in current setup, but would love to have the ssid's with different frequency combinations.

I have medium tx power with 4 SSIDs, 2 of the SSIDs only have Internet access, and printer access, they can't see or use the rest of the network. not used fast roaming before

    Hi Firewalla, all of them.

The lack of control over those advanced settings and more is what has driven me to look out for other WiFi vendors. Currently using a WiFi 7 system: Asus BQ Pro 16 (2 pack) and I believe they have settings control for all of these. Main issue, and why I’m looking forward to hearing more about AP7 Desktop is their firmware has a lot of issues with WiFi connectivity when WiFi 7 and MLO is active on the main SSID and one uses Apple devices. And they don’t need to be WiFi 7 devices…they will lose connectivity but still report that they are connected to WiFi. The workaround is to disconnect and reconnect but it’s not viable…so I disabled MLO and just kept the main SSID as a WiFi 7 which works. They allow SSIDs to either be WiFi 7 or not which I believe is needed for IoT or legacy devices to connect.

Will the AP7 have AFC support? If you cannot disclose now, no worries. Just looking forward to hearing about the specs.
