Help us make the Firewalla Gold 10Gbit Unit

Sorry, I want stable trustworthy 10G connections, so 2x SPF+ is a basic requirement, 4x SPF+ would be nice. Using SPF+ also solves much of the heating problems.
And yes, I use 10Gb over fiber at home to connect my switches, NAS and Wi-Fi access points. I removed all 10 GbE links after many hours of searching for the source of disturbed connections.

@cyber
We do not have the full cost of the rack ears, it won't be as expensive as the rack mount. The rack mount is also a tray and patch panel ...(and extremely heavy)
Sorry, too early to know if there are multi-unit discounts ... we are not yet ready with the pricing part.
Q2 2024, we are shooting for April pre-sale. This depends on if we get the board back and we will only pre-sale after verifying the board. But, with your help, we are very close to finalizing the board ...

I'm not a fw user yet because I wanted to hold out for 10G. I really appreciate your approach to this model and like the spec you have proposed, specifically 2x10 RJ45, 2x2.5, 2G wireguard (maybe?), <$1k (800 is juicy tho). I don't have a rack... my 10G switches sit out in the basement and the fans are loud. I understand if the community doesn't mind the noise and small fans are better for packaging so my request would be to consider a mod/attachment/something extra but elegant for "quiet" cooling of the device. Maybe consider the board/box layout with the needs of a larger fan in mind? Also, I have no use for SPF+ and refuse to invest in the hardware. Thanks!

Sounds like a great product!
My feedback would be to get the “look” of the unit right.
I think you have a mishmash of designs for your devices now. Ubiquiti was a bit like this a decade ago.
Get a good industrial designer and keep the look consistent across all products going forward. People should known immediately it’s a Firewalla and where it sits in the line up.
Also agree on the other user re nomenclature. Platinum suits for the flagship!
Keep up the great work. -
I registered for the 10Gbps Firewalla. However, I will only move forward if there are 4 ports; 2x10Gbps and 2x2.5Gbps. I've standardized my network for 2 dual-wan ports and 2 LAN ports across a number of routers (and will be keeping my Gold Plus as a backup).
While I could get yet another switch to split out 2 LAN ports, it would have to be be a smart switch with VLAN support. That adds complexity that I don't want others in my house having to deal with when I am travelling and there is an issue. Plus I would have to get a second smart switch just to have a backup.
I might consider 3 RJ45 ports (2x10Gbps + 1x2.5Gbps) plus a USB-C port if Firewalla were to support USB-C to RJ45 Ethernet adapters so I could have my 2nd lower speed WAN on the USB-C port (I do this on other manufacturer's routers).

This would be my 3rd FW box. I need the speeds for biz/home lab. Don’t distract the software team. Tell them to start snatching pfSense(which I love) clientele from the ether. I’ll be careful not to request pro grade hardware even though the line is being blurred by the market. I will say power in the rear would be a nice PCB revision. Upgradeable RAM ++

my two cents...
im happy with 2x 10gig rj45's. ideally 2x 2.5gig rj45's too but even if theyre 1gig thats ok.
I dont care if it doesnt have sfp+ ports, and I think the people insisting it has to have are wrong. at this price level it doesnt have to. and on the other devices that are connected to it, if they have sfp+ then you can use an sfp+ 10 gig card, and that works fine.
im happy with it getting larger than the present model. im happy for it to have a fan but ideally, one thats not too noisy.
as a 10 gig firewall with all the facilities it has, for under $1000 there's nothing to compete with it. but even if you offered upgrades at extra cost, I think its fine to offer a base unit at under $1000 and then extra ram or capability above that price.
in terms of sales, I operate four sites, and I use a firewalla at each one, and when you have a 10 gig unit, I will buy 4 more of it.
one request. your firewallas all seem to support dual wan and dual lan ports and I use that for redundancy in some of my sites. sometimes I wish it could be configured with triple wan, and 1 lan port. presumably this is just a software change and not a hardware requirement. please can you consider this?
happy to pre-order it, and happy to pre-pay for it, if it helps!

The unit needs at least one SFP+, or they will be missing the mark. From my point of view the MINIMUM ports it should have is:
2x 10G SFP+ (for dual WAN failover, or 1 WAN + 1 LAN)
2x 2.5Gbps RJ45
Support SFP+ to 10G RJ45 transceiver on both 10G ports
Physically it should not be taller than 1.75 inches, so that it can fit in 1U. Put the power connector in the REAR.

Out of curiosity, is the cost for an SFP+ capable of 10G speeds significantly more than an RJ45 MAC? I know that you already indicated that to put both into the unit would drive costs, but I have inexpensive (dumb) switches that have 4x RJ45 ports and a 10GE SFP+ port that I use for interconnect and they were under $100.
If adding both MACs into the unit drives cost up too much, maybe consider 2 versions. One with all SFP+ ports and one with all RJ45 ports. If someone wants/needs SFP+ ports, they obviously know how to deal with them and the costs associated for the SFP+ modules and fiber patch panels.
Maybe put together some potential options for the community and the estimated pricing (all subject to go up or down based on final pre-sale numbers and whatnot) to let the community know what the difference in cost will be?
Personally, the fiber service that they are running where I am currently is delivered into the premise as fiber and there is a ONT/converter, if needed, to go to RJ45. My Father-in-Law, who lives 2 miles from me, got the fiber service, so I donated my FWG+ to him to replace a very old ASUS WiFi Router he was using since I didn’t need it yet (I’m still at cable speeds of 500/20). It came up at 2.5GE on the WAN port from the FWG+ to the ONT and has been running very well for him after a some work to reboot and reconfigure devices because the fiber tech initially installed their gateway and changes the subnet of his internal network (stupid tech).

instead of just taking email addresses that are interested in this product, please consider taking a deposit. use the number of deposits to help you develop it. if you decide not to make it, you can return the deposit or apply it as a credit to other orders. I want to do everything to help you make this happen, and as a number of people have already said: Take My Money!

I agree. I think it should have at least one SFP+ for flexibility because nowadays most 10GE switches are already equipped with 10GE SPF+. This Firewalla is going to compete with high end Ubiquiti gateway. Please consider this market space and comparison. RJ45 will give an impression a lower end

I totally get wheer the SFP+ folks are coming from especially considering that the Minisforum MS-01 has 2 SFP+ (Intel X-710's no less server class stuff) and 2 2.5Gb RJ-45 with 32Gb and 1Tb of flash and a core i9 12th gen for less than $700. I also understand that Firewalla is worried (needlessly imho) about 3rd party. Essentially selling a VSA firewalla with a usb key and allowing us to run it on an ESXi host could remove a ton of that worry. But I'll be supportive of whichever direction they want to go. I just think that they are missing a much larger market without a Virtual Edition.
I don't think turning a virtual edition into a subscription is a great idea either. Mainly because the business isn't built to handle that from what I see.
@Firewalla - Looking at the dev board is that a NIC GIGA AQC113 10Gb adapter? Interesting.

I can’t help but wonder why one would like to have more than 2 interfaces on a firewall. On my FWP the LAN interface is connected to a 10Gbps switch, there my NUC and NAS have SFP+ links. Why increasing on Firewalla the footprint, energy consumption, pricing, R&D, and QA when anybody serious will always have switch + VLANs?
