My take is make all ports be RJ45, 2 x 10G and 2 x 2.5G. For the size, 1U is just enough. And lastly for the price, if you can make it $750 max. (for early supporters) that would be a done deal for me. 😁

    P. S. I agree. Please don't add SFP+ to keep the price low.

@Manny, $750 may be too low but not impossible. This is the reason we are posting this much earlier than previous projects. If we see enough commitment, we can take that and haggle with our ODM to reduce pricing.

@Ram! if you want a quad 10Gbit, under 1000 dollars (with full speed inspection) it is just not possible at the moment.

@jun our ODM normally build stuff for data centers, they will use quality parts for sure.

Prefer a 16 gig option to order… I think you need a base option like you said at the 1k dollar mark and it comes with a single 8 gig memory stick let me buy from you another 8 gig memory stick self install…. This is all I am looking for

I can’t believe after all the negative feedback, you are still choosing RJ45 only. This is ridiculous. No one is going to buy a $1K firewall without any SFP+. I can’t imagine this product not failing when it is RJ45 only.

@Firewalla it’s not quad 10 Gbs ports, it’s like the combo switch ports either you use the sfp+ ports or the rj45. Technically it’s 2 10Gbs ports and 2 2.5 Gbe..

I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for future proof. Some vendors (I've mostly seen in QNAP) have combo ports (a SFP+ and RJ45, only one useable at a time). Not sure how viable that option would be.

I would be hard pressed to buy if it is RJ45 only...

Allows the end users the flexibility to change the fan if needed, I tend to use noctua fans.

For me 2x 10gbps ports and 2 x 2.5gbps would be good, even better if one was poe for future WiFi AP project :)

Some one was asking earlier, just tested the prototype unit we have, wireguard speed is 2 Gigabit to 2.5 Gigabit :)

Seems the memory price is going up, 4GB is closer to 8GB ... so we may just provide 8GB on this unit.

The 2Gbit WireGuard number is not official. Just something I was curious too

2x 10 Gbit and 2x 2.5 Gbit sounds like the exact right compromise to me. Very excited about this announcement

Would love to see more then just 2 x 10Gbit ports. At 2 x 10 i can just get myself a UDM Pro or SE.

Now if you can do 4 or even 5 10GBit ports I would be all in!

    JUST SIGNED UP!

First thing I thought about was adding liquid cooling as a hack. Yes yes yes, that wouldn't help keep the price below $1K. But it could make the box smaller.

Juniper had a fanless poe switch back in 2016 or so and used the whole chassis a a heatsink, fantastic switch and did not get too hot (use to own one)

My zyxel 10gbps switch I swapped the fans out for quiter ones.

We are pretty picky on the fan part, I don't think we will be using a fan that will require you to swap them out.

The first question needing to be asked on this, is how many of those responding, ACTUALLY already have 10gb LANs in place?

2 SFP+ at a minimum to convert from interest into a sale.

    Oh, and local web admin.

10gb or SFP+ either way I'll get it. Just means and sgp+ to rj45 on the other end, most SMB/home users are not going long distance so if it keeps the price lower rj45. It will replace my gold pro nicely to be the core of the 10gb backbone in my house, mostly used by the switches and servers. Now if we can get Firewalla APs that would be sweet!

Width and depth are less of bother for me … but I would like it to be 1U max in height since I will rack mount this

the main issue with SFP+ is wiring. CAT6 or CAT6e is likely to cover 100 to 200 meters, and the wiring part is very forgiving. While fiber, any sharp turn will likely break things.

Uhhhh you can still get some good bends/flexibility out of fiber. And for those that are intending to use SFP+ and fiber, it'll either be longer runs where we've taken into account radii. OR on a shelf/rack, and would still mind the radii.

It's more about that it's being able to use and free up a 10gbe port on our 10gb switches, because we have SFP+ ports.
