Hopefully the average of the unit will be at price range 650 to 750, that's my guess

Is the internal performance not a strong as Gold Pro?

On the surface, it look like it has more stuff for less money.

It probably has weaker CPU and definitely half the RAM

But the same processing power overall as the Gold Plus?

    • CPU processing power is equal to that of Gold Plus. (may be a bit better on the encryption side)
    • The Gold Pro is still much faster (10Gbit) than this unit

I echo a comment posted elsewhere - the name "Gold Max" sounds like it should be at the top of Firewalla's line-up above the Gold Pro even though it's clearly not judging by the specs.

However, it's a very minor quibble to what sounds like a very nice unit.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I kind of like it but then I’m like…meh! I have the gold pro and a switchX already. Honestly I would rather see the switchX turned into a router for my use. I would bring in my ISP fiber straight into a 10gig SFP port, and send fiber out to my garage and another location that I have. Then, I have 8 10gig POE ports at my disposal locally for AP’s or a downstream switch or other devices. Personally I can’t see the value in 2.5G but that’s just me. If not 1gig, then 10gig. Except for my AP’s, nothing else I own does 2.5gig, but I have several devices that does 1gig and 10gig. Anything that I buy now I buy with 10gig capability including my MacBook Pro which can do well over 10gig on its usb-c ports. I just don’t understand why 2.5 keeps popping up. But to each their own I suppose.

I like my gold pro. Notice I said like, not love. It only has 2 10gig ports and one is my isp and the other is my SwitchX. Now what do I do with my AP’s? Well they have to go to my SwitchX and eat up ports because why would I put them on 2.5gig on the gold pro when I can put them on the SwitchX?

Sorry if this comes out negative. It’s really not meant to be. It’s just my experience with a solution that I really like far more than the competitors. I just want more on the hardware side. Greedy IT folks I guess. lol.

What you are after is really an integrated firewalla + switch combo. The good part is, you can do many things with this setup, and the bad part is, it will be expensive, and not as flexible as separating the firewall/routing with switching.

We are definitely running out of names. We already made the silk screen 6 months ago, but still room to change Gold Max to something else, if people are really bugged by the name.

I am guessing that the Max does not have a fan like the Pro.  Is that correct?  If it is fanless, it is in my future!

Max does have a fan, it is more of the purple style (slow spin, zero sound), and unless you are constantly 2gigabit or higher, it should not spin

A couple years ago I was interested in the SFP+ port, but have different hardware from my ISP, and now RJ45-only is sufficient SO I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I agree that "max" should be reserved for your flagship product.  "Gold SFP" is short, descriptive, and unambiguous.

Gold with SFP could be called Gold X.
