Moving to a New ISP and PPPoE WAN Connection - Gold Plus Configuration for Best Results?
Hi, All!
I am about to switch ISPs. I am moving from a 1Gb copper connection to a 500Mb fibre connection. The new ISP says use of my own firewall/router is OK.
My current setup is a Firewalla Gold Plus in Router/DHCP Mode and it is the NAT Source. It is positioned in front of a TP-Link/Archer Wi-Fi6E Router in Access Point mode. No Double NAT is occurring -- this ISP's loaner modem/router is in Bridge/Passthrough mode. It all works well, and Network Performance Test results show the expected connection speeds.
The new fibre setup will be a Nokia XS-010X-Q ONT connected directly to the Gold Plus's default WAN Port (4). Everything else remains as before. The new ISP's Connection Protocol is PPPoE, VLAN ID 40, MTU 1492. The ISP confirms the Nokia ONT is a pass-through/bridge device by default and does not perform any NAT. I have the PPPoE credentials. I can see how to configure the PPPoE WAN connection in the Firewalla App. Smart Queue is disabled. I have never felt the need to use it.
Is there anything else within my control that I have to configure or be aware of to achieve the rated WAN connection speed with the Gold Plus? All my physical cables and connections are solid. The OS and App are up-to-date.
I have reviewed the related threads in the Community Forum.
Please advise!
Thank you!

I'm going from 1Gb copper to 500Mb fibre. Usage analysis shows me I don't really need the 1Gb connection due to a limited number of connected devices, the speed of their adapters, and the usage profiles, etc. I'm trying to save a bit of money. I was an early adopter. I have two Golds, an original Gold 1Gb, and a Gold Plus 2.5Gb. I'm still a Big Fan!

This thread concerns a future switch to a new ISP. I am asking about the PPPoE setup/configuration on the Gold Plus to achieve maximum performance. Please review my original post for the details.
I'm not complaining about performance. I will be switching to PPPoE 500Mb fibre next week. I'm asking about configuration to ensure the switchover is seamless when it happens, later.
Do you have any advice?
Thanks for looking in!!!

You should be good, when you're switching the new WAN, you can change the network manager settings via bluetooth on your phone to Firewalla (make sure red dongle is securely attached on box). No additional configurations is required to achieve maximum performance.
You can follow steps in Speed Tests and Speed Optimization with Firewalla to check your speed.

My new ONT and fibre Internet Connection are up! I am connected to the Internet!
The ONT is connected directly to the Gold Plus. This new Subscriber Line is rated at 500Mb/s and uses the PPPoE Protocol to link.
With the Firewalla App's default Internet Speed Test Targets:
Download: 476.16 Mb/s
Upload: 535.09 Mb/s
I assume these are good results, given PPPoE overhead and test targets?
