The device names depends on several things. If you are just starting using firewalla, it does take a while, may be 2 to 5 hours to have the right names. It also depends on what mode you are using. Router/bridge/dhcp mode are much faster learning names than simple mode.

It's been months now. I have bridge mode configuration. Is there anything I can do to speed up the name collection? Doing it manually is going to be hard.

Also, is there a way to make DHCP "sticky". By that I mean same IP address should be assigned to a device (remember mac address and reassign the same IP)? This way, the manually assigned ones remain intact.

The names are often assigned by the device manufacturer. I know for Apple products, under settings you can assign names like “Charlie’s iPad” and that should get picked up by your router, though maybe only the first time it connects, and never guaranteed. Your best bet is to find the MAC address for each device, find the match in Firewalla, and change the device name in Firewalla. This name change isn’t permanent (new router, reset router…start over).  For most devices, go to the wifi connection setting to find the device MAC. Some devices, the MAC address is on a sticker on the back (Nest smoke alarm, for example). Other smart things, you can find them in their respective apps (Smart lights).

Sticky DHCP is “Static IP”. Go to any device in Firewalla, change IP allocation from dynamic to reserved.
