Got NordVPN and ad blocker no longer seems to work?

I figured I'd like to use a VPN service and got an NordVPN subscription. It appear that since configuring the connection ad blocker works far worse or perhaps even not at all. Is this normal?

DNS Booster is applied to all devices.

I used the UDP one as in the explanation, but seem to be getting (sightly) better results with the TCP variant: https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023379953-VPN-Client

  Did you turn on "force dns over VPN"? if did that, firewalla likely not going to mess with your DNS requests, so adblocker will not work.

  Not sure I specifically turned it on or that it was the default, but in any case it was on. Maybe there could be a little info there about its interaction with the ad blocker? I would not have made the connection myself.

  I'll try if it gets better and report back if not.

  That feature is on by default, since when you VPN, most people wanted all traffic go there.

  Not sure why you'd not want ads blocked when using a VPN?
  
  In any case, the part on having some info there was more important.

  Because you don't want data leaked outside of the VPN.

  Wouldn't the ad blocker only leak data to firewalla then? Or am I missing something in how the ad blocker works?
