Firewalla Gold - Can Main Network be a VLAN too?
Almost 3 years ago I set up my Main network as LAN in Firewalla Gold with VLANs for IoT and Guest. I was recently using ChatGPT to ask questions about VLAN topic and it said to put Main network in a VLAN. I tried doing this but Main wifi network went down. I may have missed something: Put SSID Main in VLAN 1, then in Switch’s VLAN 1 tag port for AP and tag Firewalla port, then switch Firewalla Main from LAN to VLAN 1. What did I do wrong?

You can always run your main network in a VLAN, that will require you to configure all network equipment to understand the VLAN ID used for your main network, and that is not an easy task if you are new to networking. Plus it may be even impossible if you don't have AP's that can map VLAN's.
The best way is to keep the main network as default, you can refer that as the default VLAN or VLAN 1 (you don't need to configure anything)

Thanks. I have Netgear WAX214s that support SSID VLAN Tagging. The only question I have now is the best way to change Firewalla and Switch (Netgear GS305EPP). Changing the APs first should not affect anything since 1 goes thru either way as the PVID is 1 on the switch. Next I think I should change the switch to tag Ports 1 and 2 (the APs) as VLAN 1 and Port 5 to tag as well for the Firewalla Gold. Then change Firewalla LAN1 to VLAN1. That’s all?
Furthermore, what are the advantages to making the main network a VLAN? This is what ChatGPT says: Using a VLAN for the main network offers several advantages, including improved security by isolating traffic and reducing unauthorized access, as well as enhanced network performance through efficient traffic management and reduced congestion. Additionally, VLANs simplify network administration by allowing logical grouping of devices, making it easier to manage and troubleshoot the network.

Using a VLAN (id) as your main network has no advantage. VLAN's is a way to segment your LAN, and the main network is also a segment just with ID of 1, and not getting tagged ...
