When you are running the Asus in AP mode, all the layer 2 or WiFi features are not a function of the Firewalla. This is something you will have to lookup or ask Asus support.

If you are running the Firewalla in router mode, all firewalla router mode features will be there, it really doesn't matter what AP you use. (except, if you use firewalla AP7, then you will get a bunch more features)

(same answer for parental control features, they will all there, regardless of what AP you use)

Let's say I'm using Firewalla time limits in the parental controls and I set a time limit of 4 hours for a device. What happens at the end of the 4 hours?  Is there any warning or message sent to the device, or does the Firewalla just silently block internet access?

After the time limit is reached, traffic to the specified app for that user will be silently blocked. No warning is sent.

More details on users and time limits can be found here: https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/23857921094675-Firewalla-Feature-Users#h_01HXZ6PY1M4T39CR1YBP5ZMNTT

For a broader overview of our Parental Control features, I highly recommend this article: https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/360008214094-Activity-and-Parental-Control
