YouTube Preview Thumbnails Greyed Out Intermittently

Hi Firewalla community,

I’m experiencing a peculiar issue with YouTube where the preview thumbnails for videos are greyed out most of the time. Occasionally, they load properly for a brief moment, but then on the next refresh, they’re greyed out again. Interestingly, if I hover over a preview box and stay there for a while, the thumbnail sometimes loads.

I’ve confirmed this issue is related to Firewalla (I’m using Firewalla Gold) because turning off monitoring restores the previews. Initially, I suspected it might be tied to DNS over HTTPS, but disabling that feature didn’t resolve the issue.

This intermittent behavior is baffling, and I haven’t been able to pinpoint the exact cause. Has anyone else encountered something like this? If so, do you have any insights or potential fixes?

  If turning off monitoring solves the issue, the problem is related to a rule you set up. Double-check if you have a safe search; this is the most probable cause.

  I do not have safe search enabled as a function. Could you tell me where I would look I don't see any safe searches besides IP and geo IP blocks ?

  Very likely geo IP blocks is doing something. What countries are you blocking? pause it and see if you can fix the problem

  I believe you're correct that all sites are being blocked via IP filtering. For example, I noticed Google.com being blocked due to an IP in Cyprus (192.178.128.104).

  What’s the best way to maintain GeoIP protection while still allowing access to essential pages like Facebook, Google, and YouTube?

  I’ve already created rules to allow these domains for all outbound traffic, but they’re still being blocked. Interestingly, if I place a device in the EA (Emergency Access) mode, it works fine.

  Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  Blocked Count:1

  Blocked By:IP Filtering

   

  I know that is GeoIP doing it but shouldn't  the rule below prevent that ?

  "Allow" rules is definitely one way to do it. Which country/countries are you blocking?

  I thought so as well that Allow rules would do the trick, but it seems to be ignored     I am blocking Singapore, Iran, Ukraine Iraq, North Korea, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen. Sudan, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan. Russia, Australia, China
