Latency issues

    Firewalla

Latency is pretty difficult to debug, and it may be related to following

    1. Wifi (if you have a lot of neighbors ...)

    2. ISP

    3. Network congestion at home

To debug such problems, we always try a continuous ping from an "Ethernet device" (eliminate wifi problem) and then make sure the network is not loaded.   If you see problems here, it is likely the ISP

If ISP is good, then you can go to wifi and try to ping from that as well.

Network congestion, you can look at the network flows.

    Thanks for your help.

I don't think the ISP is involved, as soon as i remove Firewalla, everything works fine.
Same with network congestion, I removed as many devices as possible. All the wifi devices ( also google wifi disconnected).
I connect firewalla to the modem of my ISP , then from firewalla to a switch, which connects 2 devices, my NAS and my PC.   But even now, I still have the mentioned issues.

The moment I take Firewalla out of the network, everything goes  normal again.

Can you do a continuous ping to say 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 through firewalla on your PC?  This should give us some good numbers on the latency part.

Probably a long shot but try to disable "device port scan" on your firewalla and see if the problem goes away...

background: I had a similar symptom because my bitdefender antivirus would identify firewalla's port scan as a possible attacker and take it out from the network temporarily.

also you if you can, try to use an ethernet cable straight into the firewalla just to make it absolutely minimal.

    Just to let you know,
I've been doing some further testing. And the most basic thing was the problem, the cable I used to connect Firewalla to my modem.   Once I replaced that, all was ok.

Sorry for the inconvenience, thanks for the help.

You are not the first one.  We often mix up cables ourselves as well.  Until one day, we throw everything out and upgraded to CAT7 :)
