How does VPN work when away from home?
Hello,
I am considering purchasing but would like to ask a question based on how I would use this device.
I need to be able to VPN to my home network and RDP to a host machine. My question basically consists of the following:
How does one use their firewall when remote connecting to their home network? Example: I am in Europe and on hotel WIFI. How would I use the firewall to establish a VPN connection to my home? Where do I connect the device in order to connect to my home network?

Firewalla uses OpenVPN. As long as you have OpenVPN Client installed on your device (phone, laptop) then you can retrieve the OpenVPN profile from the Firewalla and load it into the OpenVPN client on your device. The profile will have everything needed to make the connection. Once the connection is made, you are virtually sitting at home and can access all machines like you are at home. (Including RDP)
VPN (Virtual Private Network) uses the internet provided by the hotel, cellular connection, and creates a tunnel that is encrypted to allow you to communicate with your devices at home.

All the instructions are out there for setting up VPN Server on Firewalla and configuring for laptops, tablets, phones, etc....I do the same thing in order to safely RDP to systems on the inside network. Your Firewalla maintains a DDNS connection so you have an address to point to that even if your ISP's IP changes, you can still get to your network. Unless you of course have a static IP....
