...something like speedtest-cli that can be run on-demand or scheduled

  you can ssh into the box and run this

  remote_speed_test

  This is speedtest-cli wrapper.  The only problem with the speediest-cli is, it can not get to gigabit speed.  Likely just a python limitation.

  I noticed my speedtest.net numbers were low. I wondered if firewalla dual WAN was confusing speedtest. When I turn off dual wan, the numbers do in fact seem better. Does remote_speed_test take into account the dual wan configuration?

  Remote speed test is based on python, which doesn't perform too well for high bitrate tests.  (anything >300mbit).  This is from our experience only.  If you want to try something use this

  https://www.speedtest.net/apps/cli

  Tap on download for Linux.  After get that binary on the Gold, use that for tests.
