Alert feature for blocked rules on attempt to access
Hi Firewalla team, as a user of Red, Blue and now Gold Firewalla, I would like to suggest something that probably other parents would be interested too, and I think it's simple for you guys to implement !
As a parent, we have some rules for our kids such as blocking adult content such (porn, guns, violence...), so that way we keep our kids protected from that bad stuff!
So, that said would be nice to have a feature to enable/disable alarms on such rules even if it's blocking those contents, to send us an alarm saying that the device tried to access for example a porn website.
So that way we parents will know that our kids is trying to access such thing, and we can take the properly approach, due if they can't access from our home network, kids are smart and they will eventually figure out how to access it outside our protected network.
What do you guys Firewalla team and parents think about this idea ?
Thank you guys, and keep up the amazing work you're doing there !
Stay safe you all !

Agreed on this one. There are multiple use-cases. For example, if I create a rule and not sure what the impact will be, it's best practice to run in monitor/alert before blocking. Second, as OP said, I'd want the option to know if my child was tripping a rule, whether blocked or allowed. An alert switch on custom rules would certainly be nice.

Another reason this would be helpful - We came to discover that the UDP ports used by "Among Us" are not detected as gaming activity by Firewalla, and are unable to add to the category. In this case, would be great to know when it's being played, but don't necessarily want to block. Thanks.

For the love of god and everything that is holy...PLEASE enable this feature request. New user here with the MSP but there's no way I'm going to be able to figure out the API stuff. Please enable block + alarm! Kind of sad that this is a 4 year old post. Please firewalla.... help us parents out!

I am still unable (latest Firewalla beta release) to set alarm/alert for kids (unknowingly in my case) accessing blocked sites. Too many times I have been asked to explain why a site from a TargetList and or Rule got blocked and with generative AI and rapid expansion of newly generated domains - just not always possible to know about and discuss every site out there. We have set expectations for our child to ask the parents if a site can be used and am trying to give them autonomy and us parents a little more sanity.
Please add the ability to configure alerts for defined Rules.
An even better option would be a Rule alert with a quick ‘Enable Emergency Access’ toggle popup and a 15-30 minute expiration timer (similar to the Emergency Access per device menu) for the device that was accessing a possibly incorrect blocked site - no SSL inspection or redirect CA root cert. install required. This popup and emergency access could just be a temporary Allow Rule to prevent all access just for the device and then simply deletes after timer expires.
Thank you!

Frankly, it seems comical that the only way to be notified that kids on my network are looking for porn is to enable access to it on the network.
JB has it right. Us parents want ways to have teachable moments with our kids. As things are now, I can miss something unless I check the blocked flows daily. Parents need an option to add an alarm for when blocking rules trigger.
