Excessive CPU use by a ping command?

Why a simple ping command use 99% of the processor? I'm using beta release on a red box. The busy processors slow down my network

  The box does use the ping command to test connectivity.   Does the ping just hang there?  or this is just transitory?

   just hang there and appear time to time, keeping the internet useless for periods of 10 secons to 20.

  Rebooting doesnt solve the problem.

  If when ping happens and your internet is down, likely there is a routing loop.  Can you double-check whatever the system is pinging,  there is no duplication of IP addresses?  

  What is the router you are using?  Is your network relatively simple?

  My set up is really simple

  - Router Chinese Huawei HG8245Q2

  - Internet GW IP: 10.1.0.254

  - Box IP 10.1.0.253 / GW IP 10.1.0.254 / DNS 10.1.0.254

  - Overlay IP: 10.1.1.254 / DNS 10.1.0.254

  -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

  I made a factory reset and stay on stable version one day, cero issues.

  At next day i change to beta without any issues during 6 days, after that (today) the ping of death appears.

  I tried to restart the box, i cant.

  I forced the box restart with a power cut

  The box starts with the ping of death runing.. pinging to 1.1.1.1,  8.8.8.8 and the overpowered ping with processor eager to my gateway 10.1.0.254..

  I enter via SSH and kill the TWO pings, after that, the box work like a charm

  We are puzzled at this as well.  We are trying to reproduce this in our lab.

  This is likely a problem with the Linux kernel, will need to spend a bit time investigate.  something has to do with long lasting ping packets.

  Thank you very much to answer to us, i feel very satisfied with the product and your support.

  After killed the pings, the box runs smooothy after 3 days of operation, with 21 devices attached.

  Remember, i run the beta image on red: 1.966
