Can the use of Amazon cloud be disabled?

I noticed that Firewalla uses the Amazon cloud for some of its functionality.

Is it possible to disable the cloud use on the device?

  It is not possible.  There are a bunch of intelligence running in the cloud, taking it out will make many security features not useful.
