Can you check if you have UpNP or NatPMP enabled on your router? if not, it is better just to manually do a port forwarding to Firewalla from your router.

For apple routers, here is an example

Tried connecting when I returned home last night and got in. However, this morning from home and now away from home doesn't work....not sure why it worked that one time??? I will check the router today and see if things are enabled. Thanks for your quick response- appreciate it! Will let you know.

I do have UpNP enabled on my router.

Using a FiOS Quantum Gateway Router.

When I went to port forward the Firewalla, I noticed that the address on my app is defferentthan the address on my router? Guessing that could be causing the problem.

Do you mean port 1194 on your router is port forwarded to a place that's not Firewalla? In that case, maybe an issue with the implementation of UPnP.   If you can, do a static port forward, it is much more reliable.

UPnP is enabled on my router. I took a look at the port forwarding while I waited to hear back from you and noticed that the ip address assigned by the router was different than the ip address noted on the app.

I would rather not port forward If I don't have to and seeing that UPnp is enabled on my router, it sounds like it should work but doesn't. Is there anything I should check that might be the problem.

Paddler, UPnP implementation various from router to router.  One way that may clear is to turn off VPN on the Firewalla app and turn it back on.

Did not work trying from outside the network. I have tried this numerous times within the network with no results.

How do I get the VPN to work with the Firewalla- this was one of the main reasons that I purchased this and I would love to be able to use this feature.

    Thanks!

Is it possible to put a static port forwarding rule on your router? this way, we will know for sure it is a networking issue, and not an inside server issue.

Not sure- I will see what I can do.

I did turn off VPN, waited a while, then turned it on again once home. It set up a new profile and deleted the old AND I was able to connect. Used it on my phone for an hour or so with no issues. Disconnected thru OpenVPN and tried to reconnect  about an hour later with no luck... server timeout msg again. I turned VPN off on the Firewalla,  waited about 15 minutes, then went through the same steps again and was able to connect. Seems the router is changing something which doesn't allow a reconnect using the same profile????

I will try this before leaving tomorrow to see if it stays connected outside of the home network.

I don't know what "static binding of ports" means.

I connected this morning- have to go through the whole pocess everytime- enable VPN on Firwalla- Log into OpenVPN and got in. I kept it on during my commute- thru data. When I got to work and switched over to their WIFI it lost connection. Will not let me in when I go thru the process of setting up when outside of the network.

I have a Verizon FiOS Gateway router and the UnPNis is enabled when I checked the router.

I will play around with it this weekend and see if I can figure out what is going on though I am a novice;)

I mean, just insert a port forwarding rule in your router.  It is likely that the FiOS doesn't like the way Firewalla refresh UPnP.    We will look at it.   UPnP implementation is really strange out in the wild.

I have put off trying to fix this right now and turned off monitoring on the Firewalla. I have been having issues with my security cameras (mostly not receiving alerts, pics, or videos)- the company just pushed out an app update also- and I'm trying to sort out where the issues are coming from. I will turn on monitoring again when I get this sorted out and work with the VPN access. Thanks for all of your assistance.
