How to Access to windows shared folders on Synology DSM through Wireguard VPN client (Windows 10) to Firewalla Gold VPN Server?

I've got network layer connectivity from WIN10 machine on WG VPN subnet to FW to local network segments and the target Synology DSM server devices. I can browse the Synology hosted fileshares using its IP address and its device name with Domain but when using the fileshare shortcuts in Windows it does not connect. Thinking its a file service SMB setting or netbios setting that a Windows server would have to allow other than local networks connecting but the Synology DSM has no provision I am aware of to add networks other than local for the SMB services.

Anyone else have this issue or have a method they use to remotely access your NAS files via your win10/11 laptop using WireGaurd VPN on the Firewalla?

Have you checked with your windows firewall? make sure it allow connections from outside?

The only Windows firewall involved is on the client PC. And it is not blocking traffic going into the VPN and to the remote network segments and attached devices.

If you can access the device with an IP address, the issue is pretty much windows is broadcasting discovery messages on the LAN. (likely via mDNS). Since mDNS doesn't go over VPN, your other windows client won't see it. In this case, you will have to access the device via its IP.

(VPN is a layer 3 service, so it exists on a different network than your LAN)
