@J: for your current ASUS access points, if you know what their power output and gain are, by band, and you know what Firewalla's desktop AP's power output and gain are, by band, then you can get a good idea as to what kind of coverage the Firewalla AP7's will provide in your home; 2.4ghz / 5ghz / 6ghz radio waves are still 2.4 / 5 / 6 ghz radio waves and will have the same characteristics, regardless of the AP they are coming from if power and gain are the same on both APs. A radio signal put out at 26dbm but from a low dbi gain antenna is not the same as a 26dbm signal put out from a higher dbi gain antenna; if you have a high gain antenna you can set it to lower power and still get the same / better connectivity to a client through an obstruction.

@Firewalla To clarify on timing, the AP7 will not be available for early access or beta sale until the first or second week of January and then they will ship within 7 days and take up to 7 days in transit to get to the customer?
I saw in the updates at the top of this post that you plan to ship some units by air right around or after Christmas to reduce shipping costs - is this referring to shipping the devices from the manufacturer to your warehouse? -
We did not quote the 7 day shipping/transit time, it will be faster than that for sure.
Yes, we are airlifting all units in bulk from manufacturing facility to california before 1/20 ... and that process will start once the shipping price drops (likely soon). We are optimizing to get them before 1/20, and also keep the price not too far above $299 ... not easy, but possible. Since there may be other people doing the same before 1/20, in case congestion occurs, we will likely ship in small batch until we run out the first batch

Do you know how many units will be available in the presale coming up in a few days? Trying to figure out how quick I need to be on the order. Also is the limit 2 or 3 per house? Or 1? Sorry if this has been asked already. Lots of chatter/excitement on this thread! Congrats again on the AP7!

@Firewalla: Good afternoon. Do you have the specs on the antennas (max power setting / gain)? Information would be helpful for both the tabletop units and ceiling mounted units for coverage planning; i.e. I'm really looking forward to migrating from TP-Link Omada APs to Firewalla APs, just would like to determine quantity and locations.

As a current Firewalla customer, loving what you do and would be happy to support you more as the new AP7 looks awesome BUT…You only made the early release Firewalla AP7 point available to US based people, what about Australia and other regions. Yes, I know you are waiting for certification but we ( your customers) are supporting you with helping you with customer info needs and purchasing your products but we are prevented from the early release.
Here is my prediction, please correct me if I am wrong, First round gets like a $299 USD AP7. But by the time other regions come around mid-next year , your market price is Say $399 or $499USD. So no benefit to other regions at all. Then there are the shipping , currency and import fees (as no local distributors), so it turns into a much more expensive proposition for those outside the US.
Now the new UniFi Wi-Fi 7 PRO AP 2x2 Mimo Wi-Fi 7, Tri-Radio 2.4GHz,5GHz & 6GHz PoE+ 2.5 GbE in Australia shipped is $273USD here equivalent…. So you lose the early adopters, then the mass market here says well you are too expensive. Now we know you have a better product but it’s simple economics and customer focus.
So may I suggest the following as a fair and equitable thing would be to keep track of those on the EOI list from other locations and give them a discount for the same price as the first round in the US. That way you get your units certified for other markets, there is amazing good will for early customers, you make more product advocates worldwide as you are more than just a US based company, and Jerry knows he has down the right thing. How say you?

@robert, thank you for the feedback. Given we are a software company, it is pretty expensive to build software that's unique, we always try our best to price these units fairly, and at the same time, the price gives us room to add even more features in the future, same way as we are doing with the firewalla product line.
At the moment, we do not envision pricing outside of the USA to be cheaper, unless USA tariff explodes after 1/20

Understood on the AP7 not supporting PoE; was curious about the ceiling version. Understandable that details aren't available yet. I'm looking forward to seeing more details next year on that one.
On a side-note: Ceiling mount version seems like it could be a good time to launch a compatible switching product if development and conversations are far enough along? Especially if they will be 2.5/10 GbE PoE powered. Many folks are likely going to need to upgrade their switches / power injectors if that ends up being the case.

@Richard, the ceiling-mounted version will likely be a 10Gbit PoE+ ( we may also make it a 5Gbit PoE+). This will get finalized before 1/1/2025 (we hope)
We will likely start looking at switches in the second half of 2025; we have extensive expertise in this area. However, making an affordable switch will require too many variations, so this exercise may be much longer, or we will find a good partner to work with.
For now, we will focus on wifi first, and worry about the switch later.
