Can VPN server enforce parental controls on remote family devices?
The parental controls sound promising, and I'm sure I can create profiles and rules that will help protect my children's devices while they are at home, but can I use VPN server to continue to enforce parental controls when those devices are away from home?
I would like to install WireGuard client on each user device and configure each device so all web traffic is pipelined through the VPN server back at home. I'm hoping this will allow me to keep my kids safe while away from home as well as prevent them from bypassing network restrictions by simply connecting to a different network. Of course, I will need to enable parental control features on each device's OS in order to prevent the user from turning off the WireGuard VPN client. Apple's Screen Time service should handle this for Apple devices.
Has anyone been successful in getting this type of parental controls to work? I have tried this with the Gryphon AX router, but their $7.99 monthly fee for this service is burdensome when compounded with the $300 cost of their hardware. I'm hoping to get a better experience from a Firewalla gold series router.

What you need to do is creating WireGuard VPN profiles for kids and install them on their devices. You can group them with other kids devices and apply to the same rules. When then connect, they will get the same rules/policies/monitoring capabilities.
(alternatively, you can also get a firewalla purple and travel with it, see https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023771674-Traveling-with-Firewalla

I have something like this set up on my daughter’s phone. It is an iPhone. I installed WireGuard and added my home WiFi name to the exclusion list. Once the WiFi is turned off, or she leaves my house, the VPN is automatically turned on and I have it grouped with the rest of her devices.
