Factory Reset Purple Chokes when Swapping Keys

In a quest to clean up some strange network issues, I reset my mesh wifi (Linksys) and the Firewalla Purple. While trying to set up the Firewalla purple as a new box (following the instructions on the web site) I am running into extremely slow progress. I am talking about the stage where I use my iPhone and the Firewalla app to set up the box and it goes into an automatic update and key swap with the Firewalla service. After three attempts, I find that the process hangs consistently while the app is saying 'Exchanging keys for app access.' I left it running overnight (~9 hours) and the app never advanced past that point. Right now, I am running the mesh wifi directly hooked up to the modem (not a great idea), but at least I have a functioning network.

Any ideas how I can get the Purple to complete the setup process? I am getting really good at performing the factory reset, but I would prefer to have that process be a dim memory.
