PPPOE connection - port forwarding only works with UPnP enabled ...

I have a rpi running an NGINX web server on it and I am forwarding port 80 and port 443 to it.

When I disable UPnP the port forwarding stops working and the Open Ports tool shows 0 open ports. 

When I enable UPnP, port forwarding works, AND when I run the Open Ports tool, port 80 and 443 show open under the external scan section.

What is the issue? Is this a bug?

I called my ISP and they told me my PPPoE connection was not being NAT'd. So the ISP isn't  blocking ports.

 

What could be going wrong and what logs would I need to check?

Also, checking the UPnP rules that were in place, none included my web server at all.

  Are you using the Gold in router mode? or other product?  they all treat UPnP differently.

  Gold - box version 1.971 - app version 1.43 -

  I noticed that if I turn off the rule to block all traffic from internet, then port forwarding works fine.

  Is there a way to set an exception to this rule only for one device?

  When you turn on port forwarding did you tap on "allow on firewall", this will create an exception for that port.

  Thank you.  It appears that I only had 'allow on firewall' enabled for port 443 and not port 80.
