Windows PCs drop network connection after idling
Hello,
Annoying problem that started when I installed my Firewalla Purple the other day.
I have 3 Unifi APs in the house. My Windows 10 Laptop (wifi) AND my Windows 10 PC (wired LAN) have problems connecting to the network if they have been idling for a while. If I leave my laptop for a few hours, come back, it has no Internet. I try to reconnect to my network and it keeps getting kicked offline. The same goes for my PC, it shows no Internet after waking up from Sleep.
The only solution is to reboot both devices. I've tried IPCONFIG /renew and other troubleshooting fixes. It looks like it's losing DNS, or that Firewalla is excluding it.
If anyone has had this issue please let me know, not sure what to do. All other devices appear to be functioning normally (45+ devices).
Thanks

Hi Bob,
I have the same problem with a new FWG.
I have just over 30 devices connected, both wired and wireless and there are no problems with any device except my Windows 10 PC.
The disconnection can happen after a few hours or as quickly as 10 minutes, even when I'm using the PC however most times it's when the PC is not in use.
This occurred with the firewalla in a default DNS config and it made no difference switching DNS to DoH or Unbound.
The PC is connected via two powerline boxes and it would be difficult to move it closer to the FWG. I have two servers, one synology and one open media vault which are hardwired and haven't had a problem, just the windows PC.
The only way to fix it is reboot. Prior to the FWG I used opnsense and there wasn't a problem. In moving from opnsense to FWG i did enable ipv6. I disabled ipv6 on the PC and still had the same problem.
next step is to reinstall the ethernet drivers I think.
If you have any luck fixing it please post your solution...

Well after 24 hours without a problem I'm very confident that it was a clash between BitDefender and Firewalla brought on by the port scanning.
I haven't been able to find a setting in BitDefender which allows an exception to scanning, but you can specify individual targets within the firewall...

I have noticed my Tasmota devices seem to be constantly showing up in Firewalla as offline, when they are not. I can access their management page just fine. And control them through Home Assistant. And they show up mostly online in my TP-Link Routers in Access Point Only Mode. Could Port Scanning be causing this?
