Cannot update onboard pi-hole

Having followed https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034635473 to install pihole on my Firewalla Blue over a year ago, its been working fine. The one thing not working is updating the pi-hole. I get this error: Error: Unable to update package cache. Please try "sudo apt update". All forum posts tell me I need to run that command but I can't run "sudo apt update" because the Firewalla tells me customizations will likely break. Anyone got any ideas?

  Firewalla aliases apt and apt-get to print that message instead, so you don't accidentally break your system.
  If you really want to run that command, type 'unalias apt' first. That'll basically enable it.

  Edit: I have a Purple, but I think Blue is the same in that regard.

  Thx. I know what I need to do to run the command but I don't think I should because it might break stuff. My question is really what can I do instead to fix the Pi-hole update issue? I also cannot uninstall pi-hole because of this issue.

  Never mind. I have re-flashed the Firewalla and I'm leaving pi-hole off it this time. Thanks
