Two Paired Phones, Set only One for Notification Alerts?

Set my brother with a Gold and configured it for him then shared the pairing with his phone.   I would like to stay paired until he gets comfortable with the Gold but I don't want to get the Notifications for Alarms.   If I turn that off, will it turn that off for his phone too?

  You can just turn off notifications via the phone settings. Did you try that?

  Yes, but does it affect both phones?

  it shouldn't be, since the two phones are not connected. (this is the system notification)
