I originally replaced the Frontier Router with the FWP and all worked fine for a few days. Frontier says you are supposed to able to do that w/o consequence, but our service very steadily degraded with bad packet %s in the high 20s by the time service became unusable.
I put Frontier Router into transparent bridge mode and put FWP behind it with wireless wifi (also in bridge) behind the FWP. Bad packets immediately dropped to low single digits and service.
Normally, the frontier router is at 192.168.254.254. But in front of the FWP and in bridge mode, i cannot access it at that IP either through the downstream wifi or be connecting directly to the frontier router’s wifi. I have tried using the “router” IP from withing the FWP’s info and even the router IP I found when I connected directly to the router’s wifi and scanned for IP addresses.
I don’T know that I’ll need to get at it often, but frontier is still saying they can’t “see” their router and suggest that ICMP settings are off, so I’d like to get in and double check that if possible as well as make sure any security setting possible are turned on so the frontier router isnt a hole.
