Why can't Firewalla monitor LAN traffic?

While switches are designed to manage device connections within a LAN, routers are designed to direct traffic between different networks. Modern LANs send data directly to the intended recipient, preventing routers from seeing traffic between devices on a LAN. This is why if two devices are connected to the same switch or VLAN, Firewalla can't see or control what they're communicating to each other.

However, you can manage LAN traffic with Firewalla using network segmentation. This allows you to partition your LAN into smaller networks. You can easily create network segments on Firewalla Gold or Purple:

• Firewalla Gold: Create up to 3 port-based segments and unlimited VLANs.
• Firewalla Purple: Create up to 5 VLANs.
