I am also having this issue with a firewalla purple. Have raised a ticket. Direct IP connection approx 100 down and 40 up. Insert the firewalla purple, approx 100 down and less than 1Mb up. Did the whole reset to defaults and still not working.

Just report back and share. After a RMA replacement, I didn't experience the same problem in the last 2 weeks

Props for their support team as I got a response over the weekend and because I am in Australia, they decided to just send a new one out rather than do the RMA. They exceeded my expectations there so I'm very happy. I really like these devices and I will report back after a period of time with how mine goes. Sounds like they've got it sorted.

    Ditto with Purple.

Gig fiber, Previous DLs around 800-900 Mbps, and UL went from ~250-400 Mbps average to 0.01-7 Mbps in the last week.  Bypassing Purple solve the throughput problems.

Ticket # 53562; no response yet, but only submitted two days ago.

@RDZ, please check your email. We replied to you about 5 min after your initial ticket. Our support staff was asking for remote access so we could diagnose the problem. You have not responded

I’m also having similar issues. Work VPN and gaming have been severely affected. When I disconnect the purple and take my Eero out of bridge mode everything runs fast again. Ticket 53768 has been opened.

Oh wow this sounds familiar, https://www.reddit.com/r/firewalla/comments/y7gsdv/firewalla_purple_suddenly_stopped_working_properly/ exactly the same thing, 1Gbit fibre suddenly became unusable, uploads between 0.00 and 0.06, did a factory reset and now I can't even set it up again

    Opened support ticket 53890

I am having the same issue. In early October, I notice after reviewing in hindsight that upload speeds started dropping from 450Mb down to 290Mbit, then on the 20th, it dropped to 29Mb, and now I'm getting max upload speeds on FW of about 20Mb. Unfortunately in app-level tests, like Speedtest.net I'm getting 0.17Mb, and as of today, 0.02Mbit. It was usable until a few days ago, when the upload speed dropped so low that it started to affect download speeds.

At this stage I can't use it as the upload speed is so poor killing my download speed.

I was hoping this was a software issue and could be fixed with a new firmware version but it seems like it's a hardware issue. I'm in New Zealand and getting it shipped back will likely be a pain.

My kids are ecstatic, because now they have unlimited access to the interwebs...

    Craig,

This has been acknowledged by Firewalla that this is a hardware issue related to a manufacturing issue. The only way I know as a workaround is to set the WAN port speed of the Firewalla Purple to 100Mb/s - Full duplex. You can do this via the CLI on the Firewalla or by changing the device which connects to the Firewalla WAN port. Depends on your setup, but either way you need to set the WAN port to 100Mb/s Full duplex and this will increase throughput speeds to somehting useable again, although if you have a faster link it's not ideal, but at least your kids would be back to suffering again :-) I am sure someone posted the commands needed to do this on the Firewalla via SSH.

The only proper solution is to have your box RMA'd and swapped.

Thanks. I read the info further up in the comment but wanted to post here so that it adds to the weight of the issue and others may see as well.

Firewalla have been good so far, and responded to my request within a couple of hours. I'm working through the process with them now. They are asking to remote in to test, which I've enabled. Unfortunately I have reset the box and it is running in a different mode (experimental simple not router) now as I didn't want to run it in router mode at 100Mb/s mode, so I'm not sure if they will get the info they need about my old config.

The config has changed from ONT --> Firewalla (DHCP in Router mode) --> Eero (AP)  to ONT --> Eero (DHCP and AP) --> Firewalla (Experimental simple mode)

This is very similar to my issues I have been seeing for a few weeks.  I am in the beta and initially saw a slight improvement. Recently, this week I have been under 5 Mb/s and it is unusable as a WFH device.  Had to switch back to the ISP wifi/router.  My support ticket is #54674.  I've ruled out my wifi settings, factory reset reconfigured to be sure.  Ruled out the ISP modem speeds, ethernet connected, 500+Mb/s down and 500 Mb/s upload.  ISP over wifi I'm still near 500 down and 450 upload.  Factory reset the firewalla purple, configured as new router with the same results.  Downloads are good but uploads are horrible.  Please help ASAP.

I'm guessing you'll be getting a replacement purple. This seems to be very prevalent and is assumed to be a hardware issue. The longer term problem is I don't think they have a definitive fix or manufacturing change if it's in the build quality, so the replacement may have the issue x months down the road too. Hopefully it's actually a small % that have the issue, but online here/reddit it seems "everyone" has it.

Although it is impossible to build perfect hardware, after seeing this type of problem, we have been spending much more extra time than the typical standard, and $ to ensure this kind of problems happen less frequently. This is why we have recently increased the price of the purple to cover extra tests, and you may also see longer delays for purple orders.

This has happened before and I had tech support remote to my Firewalla Purple to fix it and it was good for about 3 months too or so. Now this happened again last night. Nothing I did worked which are:
    *Rebooting my modem
    *Rebooting my router
    *Rebooting Firewalla
    *Disabling Smart Queue
    *Switching to Firewalla beta

At the beginning, switching to beta fixed it but now this morning it's slow again. After googling, I saw that a lot of Firewalla Purple users are having this issue. My download speed is fine but my upload speed went down as much as 0.1 Mbps. I really hope this is just a software issue and not hardware. I even pre-ordered the Firewalla Gold Plus since I like Firewalla a lot. I have bought two Firewalla Purple. The other one is not having any issues yet but that one is at my parents house and they are not a power user like me. I'm afraid their Firewalla Purple will eventually have the same problem I'm having when it's out the warranty period. I bought my two Firewalla Purples at the same time so they should be from the same batch.

I have opened a ticket and enabled Firewalla's remote support. My ticket # is 54819

Please help me fix this issue.

This is almost certainly the hardware issue many have seen and will require an RMA. Firewalla is great about it and shipped mine the same day I sent mine in. Depending on how critical yours/your parents connection is, getting backup device ready for easy swap out is useful. I have a cheap ($60) tp-link er605 set up with VLAN/VPN that I can swap in if/when mine has the issue again.

I just started having the same issue with my Purple; over the last week, the upload speeds on my 1 gig fibre connection have slowly decreased to the point that they were under 1mb/s.  I opened a ticket (54973) and joined the beta program.  That did seem to help somewhat, but upload speeds are still < 20mb/s, which is much much slower than it was only a week ago.  Hoping the Firewalla team can help resolve the issue soon.  Otherwise I love the device.

Just want to give an update. I received a replacement Firewalla Purple for my issue and just finished migrating to this new one. Everything seems to be working ok just like before I started having the slow upload issue. My Internet speed tests shows results that I would expect. No more slow uploads and migration of my settings is easier than I thought. You won't need your old Firewalla to migrate your old settings to a new one since the settings seems to be kept on your phone. I just hope my new replacement won't exhibit any further issues.

Thanks to the Firewalla Team for being fast & awesome with the replacement! My network is running great & secure again! 😁

Yep same problem. Ticket raised. Just commenting here in case there is a work around.

I am happy to change port speed to 100Mb/a as my ISP is only 50Mb/S. Will have a go at that tonight.

Same issues here over the last few days when the box is in router mode.

    Normal download speed: 20mbps++

Since issue showed up: 0 to ~2mbps. I can see a huge range of outcomes with multiple successive tests. Multiple failures of cloud backups, photo uploads, large file sending, etc.

The speed test on the box is normal. Speed tests with laptop connected directly to the box via Ethernet often fails to execute uploads! Downloads are normal.

What is really weird is the following: I have an Orbi Access Point on the LAN. When I run a speed tests from that AP, the speeds are OK. Only "normal" devices on the LAN have the problem with Internet uploads.

I switched back Firewalla to Simple mode, the Orbi to Router mode and the problem went away.

    I have opened a ticket 58293

Google fiber ISP, same issue.  Forcing wan port w/following makes internet useable but i miss good download speeds.

sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off

Support case 58223 for reference; working through replacement (though not really an RMA, support suggested i could buy a new one and they'll refund purchase price when they receive borked unit)

Awesome support from Firewalla in my case.

They asked me to ship the defective unit back and they shipped a replacement unit back to me. The new unit is working great and both upload and download speeds are back to normal.
