Without knowing the method of "bypass", you can't know if someone won't do it again.  If they have hacked or have physical access to the laptop, or if they're on your wifi network, nothing ahead of it would help.

Have you changed your wifi password on all devices?

What was the nature of the "bypass"?

There are a number a Netgear firmware updates that have been announced for many Netgear products. If you haven’t installed any of these updates, it is likely that you were compromised by someone taking advantage through one of the holes patched in those updates.

To use Firewalla to protect you network and devices connected to it, you would be best served using either the Purple or Gold. Either of these Firewalla devices would connect directly to the WAN cable that is now plugged into your Netgear router. The Netgear router would then plug into a LAN connection from the Firewalla.

Ideally, you would then configure the Netgear router to be only an Access Point (AP) and then upgrade its firmware to the latest available version.

There are several tutorials on how to install and configure the Firewalla in the Installation and Configuration section of this web site.
