FWG + Actiontec 3200 setup questions
Hi all, I just received my FWG a few days ago and have been playing around with the setup. Here are the details of my configuration.
ISP is Telus PureFibre + also have Telus Optik TV.
So I have it all setup and working smoothly without the Actiontec T3200M supplied by the ISP, but I would like to try and use the Actiontec for a guest wifi network and to serve my wireless STB for TV.
In the Garage I have a media cabinet with:
Nokia ONT --> FWG WAN Port 4 (FWG is in Router mode)
Segment 1 (192.168.2.1) FWG LAN Port 3 --> Asus RTAC56U LAN 1 port --> Main wireless network for house (Laptops, Phones, iPad etc.) + LAN ports (2,3,4 +another 5 port unmanaged swtich) serving various wired items such as AppleTV, Airport Express, Raspberri Pi and the main Telus STB (DVR). (Asus is in Living room wired from garage)
Segment 2 (192.168.32.1) FWG LAN Port 2 --> 5 Port unmanaged switch --> a few wired IoT devices to do with Solar panel monitoring, electric car charger, overall electricity monitoring through smart meter. (all in Garage)
So this all seems to be working perfectly. The Asus is able to handle multicast and the wired STB and TV work. All devices are able to connect and access the internet.
My problems starts when I try to hook up the Actiontec 3200 to FWG LAN 1 and setup a new segment/network to get it up and running to create a guest wireless network and to broadcast the IP TV for wireless 1 STB in the house. I feel like this should be possible but I know that the 3200 is limited in what you are able to with it. You cannot turn off the DHCP (at least not easily and I couldn't get any of the hacks I found to work) and I think this is where the real problem lies. I have tried various configurations but can't seem to get it to work and wonder if there is someone that can suggest how this should work?
If I go from the LAN 1 (I setup this network on FWG at 192.168.1.254 and turned off DHCP) to the WAN port of the 3200 I can manage to get intermittent internet connectivity through a wired connection (Laptop directly connected with ethernet to a LAN port on the 3200) but when the internet comes trough the Router config page at 192.168.1.254 is unreachable and when the router config page is reachable the internet doesn't work. The 3200 likes it's LAN IP to be 192.168.1.254, the last number can change but when you try and change the 1 to anything else it just doesn't seem to take and reverts to the default value. When I connect the FWG to a LAN port instead (like I have with the Asus) the 3200 doesn't seem to get any connection to the internet. I feel like I am close, but everything I try isn't quite right! I have played with a static IP versus dynamic and messed with a bunch of other settings on both the Firewalla App and on the 3200 WAN and LAN IP setups but never quite works, and when connecting to the wireless network I don't seem to get to the internet even when the direct wired laptop does.
What should I try next!
Thanks.
