Are you segmenting your network in anyway? And when you are printing, are you on unifi AP?

Are you running Firewalla Gold in router mode?

I have two network segments (home and work). The printer, laptops and unifi AP are all connected to the home network. We are trying to print from the home network. The work network has no need for printer.

firewalla gold is in router mode.

Have you tried to reboot your printer? when you have a connection like that, your printing traffic will NOT even go through firewalla since they are local.

Yes I have tried to reboot the printer and did an firmware upgrade as well, no difference

I was able to manually add the printer (as a web services device), but I had to add a rule on the printer to allow all bi-directional traffic. It still does not detect the printer when I do a scan.

I have no idea why the rule is needed as the computer and printer are on the same local network, or why it started happening when I swapped the openwrt (no issue scanning for the printer) to firewalla. I double checked my settings on the openwrt and there were no rules in place.

Do you have any rules that may impact traffic? used a DNS server?

I have a second network segment (work) and there are rules in place to prevent traffic between the networks. However, I am not trying access the printer (which is on the home network) from the work network.

Before adding the rule I was unable to manually add the printer via either the IP address or DNS name. The DNS name is configured in the firewalla app.

If you can still ping the printer, then the issue is unlikely related to firewalla. If you can't, then tap on devices, find your printer, and turn on the emergency access for it. If emergency solves the issue, then likely you have a rule that may be blocking
