Driven by massive AI data center demands, the cost of critical memory components like DDR4 and eMMC has exploded by 10x to 20x. Combined with severe global parts shortages and absolutely no relief in sight, manufacturing hardware is becoming increasingly unpredictable and expensive.
In a recent poll, we were genuinely surprised by how many of you wanted a software-only Firewalla. We've been thinking about this too --- after all, Firewalla started out on a Raspberry Pi back in 2016. But before we commit, we need your help figuring out if we can realistically support all the wild hardware combinations out there.
This short survey will help us shape what a Firewalla Software release might look like, and convince our team there is a strong (or weak) interest to this project.
- Firewalla Software licensing will be subscription only.
- x86 support at launch only.
- Dual Port only
- Bridge / Router mode
- Virtual machine support (depends on the survey)

This would be amazing! Sent the feedback in. I wouldn't put hard caps on the amount of ports. Just licence the software and let users be in full control. I suppose we could use switches though. I have had my Gold SE for what must be close to 3/4 years and love it. The amount of people who I personally know would snap up this software from firewalla and the msp onto a Zimaboard 1 or 2 is 20 plus! Love the constant updates!
