HRBlock 2025 Tax Software Cannot Connect to its Update Center
Last week, I bought HrBlock 2025 software and have faced with HrBlock failure to connect to its update-center server to download scheduled update to its tax software. Below is my firewalla setup and the problems.
The Setup
- Hardware: Firewalla Purple in front of a Fios Router (Bridge Mode).
- Host OS: Windows 11 Pro (Build 26200).
- Software: H&R Block 2025 Deluxe + State (Amazon Digital Edition).
The Problem Summary
H&R Block 2025 fails to perform initial check on scheduled update and download Federal/State Software Download, resulting in a persistent "Cannot Connect to Server" or Error Code: WDDO.
Key Technical Observations:
Isolation Test: A separate Windows 10 laptop worked perfectly on a standard ISP network (friend's house) but failed with the same WDDO error once brought behind the Firewalla Purple.
Firewalla Failure: Even with Emergency Access ON, Monitoring OFF, and Adblock/Family/DoH Disabled, the connection still failed.
I am not a network engineer. So, I asked Google Gemini AI to search for answer and below is what it suggests:
Google Gemini suggests the block is happening at the Firewall/Ingress level or due to Packet Inspection that persists despite those toggles.
The "WDDO" Behavior: This specific error appears to be a "Handshake Timeout." It occurs when the software sends an outbound request, but the "return" response from H&R Block’s server is dropped or delayed beyond the software's strict timeout window.
IPv6 Hypothesis: There is a suspicion that H&R Block's servers attempt an IPv6 handshake that the Firewalla's default IPv6 rules might be blocking as an unsolicited inbound connection.
I hope someone can help me.
