Troubleshooting speed issues

I'm troubleshooting internet speeds and would appreciate some assistance, in particular for upload.

All numbers below are formatted as download/upload and are rounded based on multiple tests.

I have a Firewalla Gold SE. And I recently changed providers to Verizon FIOS. I am only using ethernet connections to remove wi-fi as a variable.

The connection from my router to the Verizon network is about 950/880 (using https://www.verizon.com/speedtest/).

The two tests below are run through https://www.speedtest.net/. I see the same general numbers using https://fast.com/.

Setup 1: FIOS Router -> (cat6) -> Mac Mini = 570/840
My computer is able to achieve high speed.

Setup 2: FIOS Router -> (cat6) -> Firewalla -> (cat6) -> Mac Mini = 520/20
Adding in the Firewalla changed upload speed to very poor. This is what I am looking to fix.

Speed test in Firewalla app: 400/300
The Firewalla device is able to get ok speed and not see really poor upload, although still lower than I expect.

HTML5 Speedtest using http://fire.walla:8833/ss/ is very variable. I've seen everything from 500/600 to 800/900.

How do I fix the issue of my computer having bad speed when connected through the Firewalla?

Tap on "smart queue" and see if you have any limits there. I suspect you probably had slower internet and there is a rule there to shape traffic in the smart queue.

Ah ha! That is in fact the problem. Pausing the rule fixes the issue. Thank you!

Are there any recommendations on using a smart queue rule for throttling? Or should I just delete the rule?

You can delete the rule. Since your speed is pretty fast, you can just turn on CAKE or Fq_codel without any configuration.
