"Manual configuration required" error in Simple Mode (Static Public IP, No CGNAT). Cannot use Router Mode.
Hi everyone,
I need urgent help. I cannot use Router Mode due to work requirements, so I must use Simple Mode.
I have verified my connection:
-
I have a Static Public IP.
-
I do NOT have CGNAT.
-
I have opened UDP Port 51820 correctly.
The Problem: My Firewalla App is stuck showing the error "Manual configuration required" and the VPN (wiregyuard) will not connect.
The issue is that my router refuses to respect the IP settings. I have already tried ALL of this:
-
Static IP & MAC Binding attempt: My router's DHCP range ends at .199. I manually set the Firewalla to Static IP .203 (outside the range). I also configured the MAC Binding in the router to force the .203 IP.
-
Result: The router completely ignored the MAC Binding and the Static IP. It assigned a random IP anyway (skipping the .203), which immediately breaks the port forwarding rule.
-
-
DHCP attempt: I also tried the opposite: I set the Firewalla to standard DHCP to get an IP inside the router's range. That didn't work either.
-
Firewalla DHCP Mode: I tried disabling the router's DHCP server and using Firewalla's DHCP Mode. It failed.
-
DMZ: I tried putting the Firewalla in the DMZ. It failed.
-
ISP: My ISP confirmed the router is working fine on their end.
Whatever I do, the router keeps changing the IP or blocking the connection, and the "Manual configuration required" error persists.
Is there any solution for this?
Thanks.

This is very likely due to the router's compatibility with simple mode (ARP spoofing). ARP spoofing may alter MAC address mapping to IP addresses and some routers may just get confused. There is no good work around this;
The best way is switch to the DHCP mode (legacy) or use router/bridge mode
